Job description

At Cherry Bekaert, we are building modern, scalable technology solutions that help drive innovation across the firm. We are seeking a Development Lead to join our Development & Engineering team. This hybrid role can be based in any of Cherry Bekaert's nationwide office locations and offers an opportunity to combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership and team development. The ideal candidate brings strong full-stack development experience, a passion for mentoring engineers, and a commitment to delivering secure, high-quality solutions in an Agile environment.

As a senior engineering leader, you will play a key role in guiding development efforts across frontend and backend technologies while helping advance engineering excellence, delivery quality, and continuous improvement practices. You will collaborate closely with Solution Architects, Development Engineers, DevOps professionals, and business stakeholders to deliver production-ready solutions that support Cherry Bekaert's strategic objectives.

As a Development Lead, you will:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain production-grade applications using technologies such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, Python, and Flask.

  • Lead sprint-level technical delivery by breaking down requirements, identifying dependencies and risks, and coordinating work across engineering teams.

  • Drive engineering quality through code reviews, testing standards, documentation, secure coding practices, and adherence to Definition of Done requirements.

  • Serve as a primary technical resource for resolving developer blockers, clarifying requirements, and evaluating implementation tradeoffs.

  • Collaborate with Solution Architects to execute solution designs and elevate architecture decisions when appropriate.

  • Work closely with DevOps teams to support CI/CD processes, automated testing, security requirements, release readiness, and deployment success.

  • Mentor and coach engineers through code reviews, pair programming, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional learning opportunities.

  • Support Agile delivery practices including backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, daily standups, retrospectives, and progress tracking.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including API specifications, component documentation, architecture decision records, coding standards, and operational runbooks.

  • Monitor application performance following releases and participate in troubleshooting, incident response, and corrective actions when needed.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members through coaching, professional development support, and ongoing performance feedback.

  • Participate in recruiting activities, including technical interviews, candidate evaluations, and technical assessment reviews.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen software quality, security, reliability, maintainability, and development practices

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, including at least two years in a senior or lead-level development role with technical accountability.

  • Proven experience with full-stack development, including frontend and backend technologies such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, Python, and Flask.

  • Strong ability to write, review, and maintain secure, scalable, and production-ready code.

  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with OpenAPI/Swagger documentation standards.

  • Knowledge of SQL databases, cloud platforms, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices.

  • Understanding of DevSecOps principles, secure coding methodologies, automated testing frameworks, SAST tools, deployment gates, and OWASP Top 10 concepts.

  • Experience working in Agile environments with responsibilities that include planning, estimation, backlog refinement, sprint execution, and retrospective participation.

  • Demonstrated success mentoring and developing engineers through coaching, code reviews, knowledge transfer, and constructive feedback.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify technical debt, delivery risks, security concerns, and quality issues.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong documentation practices, including creation of technical standards, reusable patterns, specifications, and operational guidance.

  • Ability to balance hands-on development responsibilities with technical leadership and team support.

  • Experience providing performance feedback, supporting professional development, and guiding team execution.

  • Participation in hiring processes, including reviewing technical assessments, conducting interviews, and evaluating candidate fit.

  • Commitment to continuous learning, collaboration, engineering excellence, and delivering high-quality solutions.

What you can expect from us:

  • Our shared values that foster inclusion and belonging including uncompromising integrity, collaboration, trust, and mutual respect

  • The opportunity to innovate and do work that motivates and engages you

  • A collaborative environment focused on enabling you to further your career growth and continuous professional development
