Description:

SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for performing under limited supervision in the assembly of ground support equipment. This position will also be providing instructional lead to assembly workers pertaining to the assembly of towing tractors by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.   • Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs
  • Diagnoses, rebuilds and repairs vehicles and equipment
  • Performs inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports
  • Use current methods, materials, tools and techniques for vehicle repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of Paint and body work
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and fabrication, electrical systems including computerized induction/ignition systems
  • Use of power and hand tools, diagnostic equipment as available
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturersโ€™ service specifications
  • Ability to communication effectively verbally and in writing
  • Safety practices and procedures
Requirements:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (The minimal acceptable level of education, experience, and certifications necessary for employment).

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates Degree from two-year College or university or one to two years related manufacturing and quality experience and/or
  • Training or equivalent combination of educational experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a mechanic on commercial and industrial vehicles
  • Minimum 3 years of diagnosing problems and performing repairs
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT (The physical attributes employees must have in order to perform job duties; unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation. The special requirements include other duties, knowledge, skills and abilities that do not have a logical place in the job description).

  • Physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision
  • Use of safety glasses and steel toed shoes required
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and customers
