What does an ASIC Verification Engineer do?

An ASIC Verification Engineer is responsible for ensuring that an Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design functions as intended before it is manufactured. They develop and implement test plans, create verification environments using hardware description and verification languages like SystemVerilog or UVM, and run simulations to detect design flaws. Working remotely, these engineers collaborate with design teams using digital tools and communication platforms to review specifications, debug issues, and validate functionality. Their work is critical to reducing errors, saving costs, and ensuring high-quality chip production.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ASIC Verification Engineer remote?

To thrive as an ASIC Verification Engineer (Remote), you need a solid background in digital design, verification methodologies, and hardware description languages such as Verilog or VHDL, often supported by a degree in electrical or computer engineering. Proficiency with simulation tools (e.g., Synopsys VCS, Cadence Xcelium), scripting languages (Python, Perl), and familiarity with UVM or SystemVerilog is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in distributed teams are valuable soft skills. These competencies are crucial for ensuring robust chip validation, efficient remote collaboration, and successful project delivery in complex hardware development environments.

What are the main challenges of working remotely as an ASIC Verification Engineer, and how can they be addressed?

One of the main challenges of working remotely as an ASIC Verification Engineer is effective collaboration with design and verification teams, especially when debugging complex issues that benefit from real-time, face-to-face communication. Additionally, accessing hardware labs or simulation environments may require coordination with on-site colleagues. To address these challenges, it’s important to leverage video conferencing, screen sharing, and collaborative project management tools. Proactively communicating your progress and questions, and establishing regular check-ins with your team, can help ensure alignment and maintain productivity in a remote setup.

What is the difference between Asic Verification Engineer Remote vs Asic Design Engineer?

AspectAsic Verification Engineer RemoteAsic Design Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's/Master's in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering; FPGA/ASIC verification certificationsBachelor's/Master's in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering; VLSI design certifications
Work EnvironmentRemote, collaborative teams, virtual toolsTypically in-office or hybrid, design labs, CAD tools
Industry UsageCommon in semiconductor, electronics, and tech companies

While both roles require a strong background in VLSI and digital design, Asic Verification Engineers focus on testing and validating ASIC designs remotely, whereas Asic Design Engineers are involved in creating and designing ASICs, often working on-site. The roles share similar credentials but differ in daily tasks and work environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Fraud Analyst based in Netherlands.

As a Fraud Analyst, you'll take ownership of fraud prevention for a high-scale digital product in a fast-moving, international environment.
You'll investigate suspicious activity, uncover emerging fraud patterns, and turn data insights into effective prevention strategies.
The role combines hands-on SQL analysis with fraud-rule design, risk decisioning, and continuous optimization.
You'll play a key part in balancing fraud prevention with conversion, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
You'll also help optimize 3DS authentication strategies across multiple markets and countries.
Working closely with Product, Payments, Data, and Engineering teams, you'll help strengthen fraud and verification systems.
This is an opportunity to make data-driven decisions, own their outcomes, and have a direct impact on trust, security, and business growth.

Accountabilities:
  • Own fraud detection and prevention activities for an assigned digital product, from identifying threats through resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze large datasets using SQL to identify fraud patterns, anomalies, emerging attack vectors, and changes in user behavior.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimize dynamic fraud risk rules that can scale with business growth.
  • Monitor and improve false-positive rates while maintaining an effective balance between fraud prevention, conversion, and customer experience.
  • Own and optimize 3DS decisioning across multiple countries, determining when additional authentication should be triggered.
  • Analyze conversion, rejection, and verification drop-off rates and translate findings into data-driven improvements.
  • Design and maintain fraud detection logic, alerts, and workflows used by fraud operations teams.
  • Collaborate with Product, Payments, Data, and Engineering teams to strengthen fraud detection and verification systems.
  • Track fraud trends, communicate insights and recommendations clearly, and ensure decisions are informed by relevant risk indicators.
  • Take ownership of fraud-related decisions, evaluate their outcomes, and iterate quickly based on results.
Requirements:
  • Proven professional experience in fraud analysis, payments risk, risk management, or a closely related field, with demonstrated ownership of outcomes.
  • Strong SQL skills and practical experience working with large datasets; SQL proficiency is mandatory.
  • Hands-on experience creating, maintaining, and optimizing dynamic fraud risk rules.
  • Strong understanding of fraud patterns, user behavior, payment risks, and relevant key risk indicators.
  • Practical knowledge of 3DS and authentication strategies across different countries and regions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities, with confidence making data-backed decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex analytical or technical topics clearly to different stakeholder groups.
  • Professional fluency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Python experience is a plus.
  • Experience in fintech, payments, payment processing, or high-growth digital product environments is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with fraud and payments solutions such as Forter, nSure, or justt.Ai is a plus.
  • Knowledge of PSD2, SCA, TRA, and liability-shift concepts is beneficial.
  • Experience working across international, multi-market environments is an advantage.
Benefits:
  • Annual salary of 32,400-40,020, depending on experience and level of responsibility.
  • Opportunity to participate in an employee stock options program.
  • Fully remote flexibility, with the option to work from an office and the opportunity to combine work with travel.
  • Performance-based, referral, and additional paid-leave bonus programs.
  • Personal learning budget to support continuous professional development.
  • Paid volunteering opportunities.
  • Opportunities to contribute to the growth and scaling of a unique digital product.
  • Strong opportunities for personal and professional growth, supported by structured feedback and promotion processes.
  • International, English-speaking working environment.
