Job description

Job Summary
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist in the overall activities of middle school-aged students in an After School Education & Safety (ASES) program; assist in planning, designing, and leading activities; supervise students in classroom, gym and outdoor activities.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist in the preparation of daily program activities including materials and supplies; lead activities with a group of students; provide a safe, caring, positive and interesting learning environment that supports a high level of student engagement; take attendance and monitor students' whereabouts. Prepare motivating activities focused on building self-confidence, positive social interactions, and team building. E
Serve as a role model and foster positive social-emotional growth of students; follow school rules, follow established procedures for behavior management using a continuum of intervention strategies; reinforce positive behaviors as appropriate. E
Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. E
Actively supervise students during academic hour and enrichment activities; encourage students to use active study strategies such as Cornell Notes, flashcards, and graphic organizers; support students in competing homework; use Compass Learning, reference Learning Point, and use resources such as peer tutors. E
Assist students with homework completion; explain questions and provide better understanding of homework as needed. E
Foster the alignment of ASES with the school day and positively communicate with school staff. .E
Communicate concerns of student behaviors with supervisor and follow through with interventions. E
Be familiar with ASES attendance procedures, PUSD ASES program plan, and ASES grant guidelines. E

Positions at the following sites work 9.5 months out of the year (summers off), 2-3 hours per day:
Bernardo Heights Middle School, Black Mountain Middle School, Design 39, Meadowbrook Middle School, Mesa Verde Middle School, Twin Peaks Middle SchoolPositions at Oak Valley Middle School are 12 months per year, 2-3 hours per day
