What is an AS9100 consultant?

An AS9100 consultant is a professional who specializes in helping organizations in the aerospace industry implement and maintain the AS9100 quality management system standard. They provide expertise in interpreting the standard’s requirements, conducting gap analyses, developing compliant processes, training staff, and guiding companies through the certification or recertification process. Their goal is to ensure that a company meets all necessary quality and regulatory requirements for aerospace manufacturing and services, leading to improved efficiency, reduced risk, and enhanced customer confidence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AS9100 consultant?

To thrive as an AS9100 Consultant, you need in-depth knowledge of aerospace quality management systems, auditing expertise, and experience with AS9100 standards—often supported by relevant certifications such as AS9100 Lead Auditor. Familiarity with quality management software, document control systems, and regulatory compliance tools is typically required. Exceptional analytical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills help consultants engage clients and drive process improvements. These competencies ensure effective implementation and maintenance of AS9100 standards, supporting regulatory compliance and operational excellence in aerospace organizations.

What are the most common challenges an AS9100 consultant faces when guiding organizations through certification or recertification?

One of the main challenges an AS9100 Consultant encounters is ensuring that all departments within the organization understand and consistently apply the requirements of the AS9100 standard. Resistance to change and varying levels of quality management awareness across teams can require tailored training and communication strategies. Additionally, consultants often need to balance the urgency of meeting tight certification deadlines with the thoroughness required for sustainable quality improvements. Successful consultants excel at fostering cross-functional collaboration and building a culture of continuous improvement while navigating these complexities.

  • 5+ years of experience in Quality Systems, Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, or Quality Auditing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading internal audits and preparing organizations for AS9100 certification or surveillance audits.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100 requirements, QMS compliance, CAPA, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience working within aerospace, aviation, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently while influencing teams across multiple functions.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Flexible hybrid schedule with significant remote work flexibility.
  • Travel, lodging, airfare, mileage, and business expenses fully reimbursed.
  • High-impact project with direct exposure to executive and site leadership.
  • Opportunity to lead a major aerospace audit-readiness initiative from assessment through certification.
  • Competitive hourly rate with flexibility for highly qualified candidates.
Note: Candidates with extensive aerospace quality systems experience, multiple successful AS9100 audit engagements, and a strong track record of certification readiness leadership may be considered above the posted pay range.
