What is a Quality AS9100 professional?

A Quality AS9100 professional is someone who specializes in ensuring that an organization in the aerospace industry meets the requirements of the AS9100 standard. AS9100 is a widely adopted and standardized quality management system for the aerospace sector, focusing on product safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. These professionals develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems, perform audits, and facilitate continuous improvement to help organizations achieve and retain AS9100 certification. Their role is critical in minimizing risks, ensuring quality products, and meeting customer and industry expectations.

What are common challenges faced by Quality AS9100 professionals when ensuring compliance in aerospace manufacturing?

Quality AS9100 professionals often encounter challenges such as interpreting complex regulatory requirements, integrating AS9100 standards into existing processes, and maintaining thorough documentation for audits. They must also foster a culture of quality across multidisciplinary teams and ensure all employees are trained in AS9100 procedures. Additionally, managing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives while balancing production demands can be demanding but provides opportunities for professional growth and impact.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quality AS9100 professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality AS9100 professional, you need in-depth knowledge of quality management principles, AS9100 standards, and a background in engineering or manufacturing quality systems. The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for leading and maintaining the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with AS9100 and ISO9001 standards. This role oversees QA personnel, ensures audit readiness, drives compliance initiatives, and enforces quality processes across production and support functions.
This position is heavily focused on quality systems ownership, auditing, and regulatory compliance, ensuring the organization operates in full alignment with aerospace and industry standards. The Supervisor plays a key role in leading internal audits, managing corrective actions, and promoting a culture of quality throughout the organization.

Audit Leadership Experience
• Proven experience as an internal or lead auditor
• Planned, executed, and led audits independently
• Documented findings and drove corrective actions (CAPA) to closure
If you have only been audited but have not led audits or maintained a QMS, you will not be a match for this role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Quality Management System (QMS) Leadership
• Own and maintain the AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Management System
• Manage documentation control, procedures, and compliance records
• Ensure organization-wide adherence to quality standards and procedures
• Drive continuous improvement of the QMS and quality processes
Audit & Compliance Management
• Plan, schedule, and lead internal audits across all departments
• Serve as primary point of contact for external and certification audits
• Ensure audit readiness and successful maintenance of certifications
• Track audit findings and ensure timely and effective CAPA implementation
• Monitor compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements
Team Leadership & Oversight
• Supervise QA personnel; provide direction, accountability, and performance management
• Train employees on quality standards, procedures, and compliance requirements
• Foster a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Partner with leadership to align quality objectives with business goals
CAPA & Problem Resolution
• Lead root cause analysis for quality issues, nonconformances, and audit findings
• Ensure proper documentation, investigation, and closure of CAPAs
• Drive preventive actions to reduce recurrence of quality issues
Operational Quality Support
• Ensure proper implementation of inspection processes and quality checkpoints
• Oversee calibration programs for production and inspection equipment
• Maintain traceability and accuracy of quality records and documentation
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to enforce process compliance
QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS:
• AA/BS degree in Engineering, Quality, Business, or related field (technical degree preferred but not required)
• 3+ years of experience in a quality leadership role within manufacturing
• Strong, hands-on experience managing AS9100 or ISO9001 systems
• Certified or experienced internal/lead auditor
• Proven experience leading audits, CAPA, and compliance initiatives
• Strong knowledge of quality systems, documentation control, and regulatory standards
• Experience supervising or leading teams
• Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ERP experience preferred (Dynamics/Navision)
Preferred:
• Aerospace or manufacturing industry experience
• Experience interfacing with customers and external auditors
• Familiarity with supplier quality and customer complaint resolution
• Experience driving cross-functional quality improvements
SHIFT:
  • 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM; Monday - Friday; On-site
