What is the role of an architectural project manager?

The role of an architectural project manager is to oversee the design and building of an architectural project. As an architectural project manager, you are the liaison between the architect or firm and the construction workers. Your duties and responsibilities are to see that the construction meets the architect’s conception. You monitor all phases of the building process and frequently consult with the architect, the site project manager, and other construction professionals about the progress of the project, including the budget, schedule, and hiring of contractors.

How does an architectural project manager typically collaborate with stakeholders throughout a project's lifecycle?

Architectural Project Managers work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. They facilitate communication by organizing meetings, clarifying project goals, and ensuring that everyone is aligned on timelines and deliverables. Throughout the project, they manage expectations, address concerns, and coordinate between teams to solve problems proactively. Effective collaboration is essential for keeping the project on schedule and within budget, while maintaining design integrity and compliance with regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an architectural project manager, and why are they important?

These abilities ensure successful project delivery, compliance with regulations, and satisfaction of both clients and stakeholders.

Job description

We are seeking an Architectural Project Manager to lead the coordination, technical development, and delivery of commercial construction documents. This role is responsible for guiding projects through the design and documentation process, coordinating internal staff and outside consultants, maintaining quality and code compliance, and supporting efficient project execution from concept through permit and construction documentation.

Not all projects follow the same delivery model, but this role will have access to construction-side insight and support as needed during the design process, benefiting from practical input on constructability, coordination, sequencing, and overall project execution.

The role is also supported by internal administrative staff for routine accounting, billing, and invoicing tasks, allowing the Project Manager to stay focused on project coordination, consultant management, technical delivery, and team leadership.

The ideal candidate is highly proficient in Revit, experienced in BIM 360, understands applicable building codes, and is comfortable leading a small team while coordinating with engineering consultants, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and coordination of commercial construction documents across all project phases
  • Coordinate drawings and project information among architectural and engineering disciplines, including civil consultants
  • Use Revit and BIM 360 to support model management, document coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Review work for quality, completeness, constructability, and code compliance
  • Apply strong knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, and jurisdictional coordination
  • Direct and mentor a team of designers, providing guidance, delegation, and review
  • Coordinate project schedules, consultant deliverables, and internal team deadlines
  • Maintain clear communication among team members, consultants, clients, and leadership
  • Identify conflicts early and drive resolution across disciplines using Revit, BIM 360, and drawing review processes
  • Guide technical execution while balancing design intent, constructability, and code compliance
  • Support efficient, organized, and high-quality project delivery
Skills
  • Professional degree in architecture or related field preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Revit
  • Working knowledge of BIM 360 for project collaboration, file sharing, and consultant coordination
  • Demonstrated experience producing and coordinating commercial construction documents
  • Solid understanding of building systems, consultant coordination, and applicable building codes
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to organize work, lead a small team, and keep projects moving
  • Experience in design-build delivery is preferred, but not required
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and performance‑based bonuses
