As an Architect Intern, you will typically be involved in assisting with drafting construction documents, developing design concepts, and researching building materials and local codes. You may also support project managers by preparing presentations, participating in team meetings, and collaborating with engineers or other consultants. Many firms encourage interns to contribute ideas during design charrettes or critiquing sessions, helping you develop both technical and creative skills. These experiences are designed to provide valuable, hands-on exposure to real architectural projects and the collaborative process within a professional design team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the architect internship position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Architect Intern, you need foundational knowledge of architectural design principles, proficiency in drafting, and experience with building codes, often supported by progress toward a degree in architecture or a related field.
