Job description

Position Title: School Social Worker
Status
: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Reports To
: Assistant Principals/Executive Director


POSITION SUMMARY:

The School Social Worker is a full-time member of the Archbishop Damiano School support team, providing comprehensive social work services to students with special needs and their families. This role works collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners to address behavioral, emotional, and social needs while fostering a positive and inclusive school environment for a diverse student population. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish and a New Jersey School Social Worker certification are preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

โ€ข Provide direct social work services to students, addressing behavioral, emotional, and social needs
โ€ข Manage a caseload of students, maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential documentation
โ€ข Collaborate with teachers, administration, and the IEP team to support student success and implementation of individualized plans
โ€ข Respond to student crises and support the development and implementation of crisis intervention plans
โ€ข Partner with families and community agencies to coordinate services and support student and family needs
โ€ข Participate in child study team processes, intakes, and case management meetings
โ€ข Develop and facilitate parent groups and provide guidance to families in a confidential and supportive manner
โ€ข Serve as a student advocate and support positive school climate initiatives
โ€ข Communicate and collaborate with external agencies, including Social Services, Mental Health, and Developmental Disabilities
โ€ข Serve as the designated reporter for child abuse/neglect and conduct mandated reporter training
โ€ข Support staff understanding of the social work role and collaborate to address student needs across settings
โ€ข Maintain compliance with school policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
โ€ข Utilize technology and data systems to support documentation and communication
โ€ข Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
โ€ข Attend required meetings, maintain consistent attendance, and perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masterโ€™s degree in Social Work or a related field required
  • Valid New Jersey School Social Worker certification required
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with students with special needs or in a related setting preferred
  • Experience working within a school-based or IEP-driven environment preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driverโ€™s license, reliable transportation, and current insurance
  • Approval of Criminal History Review from the New Jersey Department of Education required

WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION:

  • Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 8:30 AM โ€“ 3:30 PM
  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Contract: 48-week position
  • Compensation: $30โ€“$40 per hour
  • Benefits: Eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as participation in the schoolโ€™s retirement plan and paid time off in accordance with school policy. Employees are part of a collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on supporting students with diverse needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to move throughout classroom and school environments
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Ability to implement non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • May involve exposure to biohazards, including bodily fluids and cleaning material
