About the Event

Arch Bark, presented by Purina returns to Gateway Arch National Park bigger and better than ever!

This fun and festive day in the park includes a one-mile dog walk,โ€ฏlocal pet vendors, music, lawn games, the opportunity to become a B.A.R.K. Ranger and more!

About B.A.R.K. Ranger

National parks are exciting places for pets! The National Park Serviceโ€™s B.A.R.K. Ranger program promotes responsible pet ownership and respectful park behaviors. To join Gateway Arch National Park's B.A.R.K. Ranger program, dogs and their owners pledge to follow the rules of B.A.R.K.:

Bag your waste Always wear a leash Respect wildlife Know where you can go

These policies are in place to enhance the visitor experience, preserve the delicate ecosystems of the park, and protect the land for future generations. Dogs who are sworn in as B.A.R.K. Rangers receive an exclusive bandana.

Our Opportunity:

Did you know Gateway Arch National Park is pet friendly? Help the community celebrate this with their furry friends at Arch Bark on Saturday, April 18th from 9 a.m. - noon and/or noon - 3 p.m. Volunteers will be involved in a variety of fun activities for pets and their owners including:

  • Set-up/Tear-down: Volunteers will work with Foundation event staff to set up tents, tables, signs, and activities before the event and take them down and store them after the event.
  • Greeters: Volunteers assist visitors from downtown (4th street) to the North Gateway where the event takes place while handing out information about the event. Greeters will be stationed in various locations throughout the park and downtown. Be prepared to take visitors photos at the Arch.
  • Yard Game Crew: Volunteers assist visitors with set up, play, and clean-up of yard games. These games may include arch blocks, corn hole, giant Jenga, dice, and more!
  • Pet Patrol: Volunteers rove the event and assist with handing out treats to pets and ensuring the rules of B.A.R.K. are being followed by visitors. Volunteers will also be guides along the 1-mile dog walk.

Volunteers may bring their pets to participate as long as they are leash trained and friendly with other dogs, people, and kids.

Roles and Responsibilities:

18 or older (younger applicants with parental/guardian approval may be considered). As representatives of Gateway Arch Park Foundation, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided prior to or during training.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • All dogs must be leash trained
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm, friendliness, and a positive attitude
  • Respect for confidentiality of the Gateway Arch Park Foundationโ€™s volunteers, partners, members, and donors
  • Willingness to take initiative, and voice ideas

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to twenty-five (25) pounds

Commitment:

9 a.m. - noon and/or noon - 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th.

Location:

North Gateway at Gateway Arch National Park

Training and Supervision:

  • Event orientation will be on Thursday, April 16 at 5 p.m.
  • Training will be hands-on and take place during the event.
