The role covers the functional scope of a production BMS—state estimation (SoC, SoH, SoP, SoE), contactor controls, cell balancing, thermal management, isolation monitoring, diagnostics, and functional safety—across multiple chemistries and applications. This role features MATLAB/Simulink and model-based design development approach to deliver production software that improves battery performance, safety, and life, and partners with systems, software, validation, and vehicle integration teams to bring it to production.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate BMS state estimation algorithms using Kalman filtering, adaptive observers, and model-based methods.
  • Develop BMS functional control features related to contactor and pre-charge control sequencing, cell balancing, thermal management, charge/discharge limit arbitration, wake/sleep behavior, and multi-pack control features.
  • Develop diagnostics and fault-handling strategies covering cell, sensor, isolation, contactor, communication, and thermal faults, including detection, reaction, and recovery.
  • Support functional safety development per ISO 26262, including safety goals, Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) inputs, safety mechanisms, and Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) rated software.
  • Develop high-voltage isolation monitoring, interlock handling, and high-voltage (HV) safety logic.
  • Develop equivalent-circuit and physics-based battery models for real-time embedded execution and offline simulation.
  • Design controls algorithms to be scalable across chemistries, cell formats, and pack architectures.
  • Define software and controls requirements from customer, vehicle, and system-level inputs.
  • Perform algorithm and feature validation through MIL, SIL, HIL, bench, and vehicle testing.
  • Support embedded software integration, auto-code generation, calibration, and production software releases.
  • Analyze battery and vehicle data using Python and modern data tools to refine models, calibrations, and diagnostics.
  • Apply AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate algorithm development, simulation, validation, scripting, and documentation.
  • Support root cause analysis and issue resolution across prototype, validation, launch, and production phases.
  • Collaborate with hardware, systems, software, validation, and vehicle integration teams, and participate in customer technical reviews.

  • Strong hands-on experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and model-based design.
  • Experience developing BMS functional controls such as contactor/pre-charge control, cell balancing, thermal management, and current/power limit arbitration.
  • Experience developing state estimation algorithms using Kalman filtering or observer-based methods.
  • Experience with BMS diagnostics, fault detection and reaction, and high-voltage isolation monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 and functional safety as applied to high-voltage battery systems.
  • Experience with embedded software integration, auto-code generation, and production release processes.
