Description

Arabic Language Specialists
JTG is seeking Arabic Language Specialists to support authentic written and spoken materials work. Tasks including sourcing, transcription, translation, and review will be assigned based on each specialist's experience, skills, interest, and availability.ย 

Languages

  • Arabic -ย Hassaniyyaย (Hassaniya, Hasaniya)ย 
  • Arabic - Moroccan (Darija)
  • Arabic - Libyan

Pay Range: $0.10 - $0.20 per word of translation; sourced monolingual content is paid per batch
Location and Status

  • Remote
  • Independent Contractor; Reports to Project Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in a language-related field (translation, transcription, teaching, linguistics, or corpus development)
  • Proficiency at Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 3+, i.e., exceeding Professional Working Proficiency, or higher in the Arabic languageย (reading and listening) and ILR level 3, i.e., Professional Working Proficiency, or higher in English.ย 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with authentic written and/or spoken materials
  • Experience using standard digital tools (Microsoft Office, audio playback/editing tools, online research)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with transcription of audio materials
  • Experience with searching for content in low-resource languages/dialects
  • Strong skills in translation of written and spoken discourse
  • Demonstrated experience selecting authentic materials and accurately transcribing and translating spoken and written content into English. Familiarity with regional dialect variation, country-specific usage, and established orthographic conventions required.

Responsibilities

  • Source and select authentic written and spoken materials in the language
  • Transcribe speech-derived content (audio recordings, broadcasts, interviews)
  • Provide accurate English translations of target-language materials
  • Review and refine translations for accuracy, consistency, and clarity
  • Adhere to project standards, specifications, and delivery timelines
  • Maintain clear documentation of sources and decisions

Work Expectations

  • Responsibilities may include any combination of sourcing, transcription, translation, and review, tailored to the language specialist's experience level, interests, and capacity.
  • Expected workload: approximately 10-40ย hours per week
  • Project duration: Through the end of January 2027, with possible extensions
  • Work is performed remotely; contractors provide their own equipment and workspace

Selected consultants will be required to:

  • Sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
  • Disclose any potential conflicts of interest
  • Follow data security and confidentiality guidelines
