Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Arabic (Saudi Arabia) Sports Localization Specialist (Football) based in Netherlands.

This role is ideal for a football enthusiast with strong linguistic expertise and a deep understanding of Saudi Arabic culture.
You will help adapt football and sports content so that it feels natural, accurate, and engaging for audiences in the Saudi Arabian market.
The position combines translation, localization, quality control, fact-checking, proofreading, and creative adaptation.
You will work with audiovisual content and apply market-specific terminology, style, and cultural nuances.
Your football knowledge will be essential in ensuring that localized content is both linguistically precise and contextually accurate.
You will also research local trends and provide feedback that helps continuously improve content quality and audience relevance.
This is an opportunity to contribute to an international localization environment while shaping sports content for passionate football audiences.

Accountabilities
  • Review, translate, localize, fact-check, and adapt sports-related content, with a primary focus on football, while consistently following established style guides, quality standards, and localization guidelines.
  • Perform quality control on English (US) to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) content, ensuring accuracy, fluency, consistency, and appropriate cultural adaptation.
  • Adapt audiovisual and other multimedia content to ensure that language, terminology, tone, and messaging resonate naturally with Saudi Arabian audiences.
  • Conduct market-specific research into local sports content, football terminology, product language, cultural preferences, and localization trends.
  • Apply extensive football knowledge to verify facts, terminology, references, and contextual details within localized content.
  • Proofread and edit Arabic content to maintain excellent grammar, readability, consistency, and natural native-language expression.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback on written content to support quality improvements and more effective localization outcomes.
  • Adjust voice, tone, and style where appropriate to reflect football fan culture, contemporary audiences, and different content formats.
  • Manage assigned weekly workloads while maintaining high standards of accuracy and meeting project deadlines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and/or at least 2 years of professional experience in linguistics, translation, localization, sports journalism, copywriting, copy-editing, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of sports, particularly football, including familiarity with relevant terminology, competitions, players, teams, and football culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in translation and localization of multimedia or audiovisual content; experience with machine translation and linguistic evaluation is an advantage.
  • Native-level fluency in Arabic (Saudi Arabia) with excellent grammar, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Strong English-language comprehension to accurately interpret and adapt source content from English (US).
  • Excellent creative writing and editorial skills, with the ability to adapt content naturally rather than relying solely on literal translation.
  • Strong cultural awareness and the ability to identify language, terminology, and content choices that may not resonate with the target market.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, word-processing applications, spreadsheets, and digital content workflows.
  • Practical proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and access to a licensed version of the required software.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, reliability, and the ability to work independently while managing assigned workloads.
  • Bonus: Experience contributing published sports content to platforms such as ESPN, The Athletic, FourFourTwo, or comparable publications.
  • Bonus: Experience working with sports media platforms, live-score applications, sports streaming services, or other digital sports products.
  • Bonus: Ability to adapt language and tone effectively for Gen Z audiences, football fan communities, and contemporary pop-culture contexts.
Benefits
  • Opportunity to work on international sports localization projects with a strong focus on football.
  • Exposure to audiovisual, multimedia, translation, localization, and quality-control workflows.
  • Opportunity to apply professional football expertise and Saudi Arabian cultural knowledge to globally distributed content.
  • Flexible project-based work environment with the ability to work independently.
  • Opportunity to contribute feedback and linguistic expertise to continuously improve localization quality.
  • International collaboration with teams working across multiple markets and languages.
  • Professional development through exposure to evolving localization technologies, multilingual content workflows, and machine-assisted language evaluation.
  • Expected weekly workload of approximately 2,000 to 5,000 weighted words, depending on project requirements.
