About the Role
The Payroll & Accounting Ops Specialist will support the financial operations of Babel Street by executing payroll processes and assisting with broader accounting operations. This role reports to the Accounting Operations Manager and is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across U.S. and International operations, and providing operational accounting support across key accounting functions including billing and collections, accounts payable and payments, cash management, tax and other areas.
This position requires a detail-oriented, highly responsible, committed and dependable professional with strong payroll and foundational accounting knowledge, capable of managing day-to-day payroll activities and supporting the functions noted above. The role will play a key part in maintaining payroll accuracy, supporting compliance efforts, and contributing to scalable, efficient accounting processes as the company continues to grow.
Global Payroll Processing & Coordination
  • Execute and support end-to-end global payroll processing for a dynamic, expanding, multi-entity and multi-state company with approximately 250 worldwide employees
  • Prepare U.S. semi-monthly payrolls, and special payrolls as needed, for exempt and non-exempt employees, salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Coordinate with third-party payroll providers for U.S. and five International payrolls (Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, and UK)
  • Maintain payroll records and support documentation
  • Act as a primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and issues, providing timely and effective resolutions, and escalating complex, non-routine, or high-risk matters to the Accounting Operations Manager for review and guidance

Financial Statement Close Support
  • Prepare payroll-related journal entries for review
  • Assist in payroll-related balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support timely completion of payroll deliverables

Payroll Tax Compliance & Reporting
  • Support payroll tax compliance activities
  • Prepare payroll reports for internal stakeholders and audits
  • Assist with audit documentation requests

HR & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with HR to ensure accurate employee data updates
  • Collaborate on payroll-related improvements

Accounting Operations Support
  • Support the Accounting Operations Manager with broader accounting and finance operation as needed
  • Assist with sales tax compliance activities, including data preparation and coordination of filings
  • Support accounts receivable processes, including billing, collections, customer follow-ups and dunning communications
  • Assist with ad hoc accounting tasks, reconciliations, and process improvements
  • Provide backup support for other operational accounting processes as needed

Education & Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred
  • CPP certification preferred

Experience and Knowledge
  • 3+ years of payroll or accounting experience
  • U.S. payroll processing expertise
  • Operational accounting experience (AP, AR, sales tax, cash management, etc.) preferred
  • Experience in a multi-entity environment is a plus
  • Working knowledge of U.S. payroll regulations
  • Basic understanding of accounting operations and workflows
  • Basic understanding of international payroll is a plus

Technical Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll systems (Paylocity preferred)
  • Familiarity with accounting systems (NetSuite preferred)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with HRIS platforms is a plus
  • Experience supporting systems implementations, integrations, or process automation initiatives across payroll, HRIS, and accounting platforms is a plus

Range for this position based on qualifications and experience
$75,000-$95,000 USD
