Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director or designee, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible to ensure all participants are provided with activities which promote the social, cultural, educational, physical, and leadership potential of the child. Under the Aquatics Coordinator's supervision, all aquatic classes will be organized and staffed by qualified swim instructors who reflect and support the Mission of the Old Colony Y. The Aquatics Coordinator will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and regulating agency. The Aquatics Coordinator will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
JOB FUNCTION:
  1. PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach swim classes as needed & Lifeguard as needed
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, discipline and evaluate all swim instructors
  • Ensure that staff is informing class and pool procedures to program participants and enforcing all posted rules.
  • Supervise aquatic events and encourage staff and members to participate.
  • Review all swim instructors' time cards to assure each has been completed correctly and accurately.
  • Work with aquatics director to schedule pool offerings and ensure volume control
  • Oversee the standardization of student evaluations for swimming levels.
  • Monitor class registrations, rosters, and participant to instructor ratios.
  • Send class logs, program logs, and cancellation logs to the Program Director
  • Act as greeter and supervisor during first week of classes
  • Maintain and oversee the attendance and progress records for all students.
  • Provide in-services and instructor meetings between program sessions.
  • Report all incident/accidents on proper forms and submit to supervisor.
  • Coordinate and facilitate camp swim lessons and open swim schedules with Program and Aquatics Directors.
  • Keep current with the field of aquatics, program offerings from competition, best practices from other Y's and associations, and recommend changes and/or progressions to supervisor
  • Implement a minimum of 2 new programs annually.
  • Coordinate incentive programs alongside head guard

  1. SUPERVISION OF PERSONNELL:
    • Responsible for hiring, training and evaluations of all swim instructors.
    • Recruit, train and provide leadership for volunteers.
    • Wear staff uniform at all times (on duty)
    • Assign and post instructor schedules ensuring adequate coverage of classes at all times.
    • Ensure that all certifications and in-service training requirements are up to date for all swim instructors and documentation is properly filed.

  1. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, program registration, purchase orders and employee expenses.
  • To keep accurate attendance records and class records, checking with membership service before entering new names to rosters.
  • Participate in the annual Strong Kids Campaign by running at least one fundraising event in the aquatic department.
  • Assist supervisor with the development of the annual budget as it pertains to aquatics.
  • Manage the swim class portion of the aquatics budget with the guidance of the supervisor, to meet or exceed the budgeted numbers.

  1. FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Properly test water for chemical balance and record at assigned times (inform building sup. of chemical level problems).
  • Check all safety equipment, reporting any problems in writing to supervisor.
  • Assure that all swim class equipment is organized and in proper working condition, reporting any problems and changes to supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records of resale merchandise inventory and order new merchandise when necessary.
  • Properly open and close pool as scheduled.
  • Security and safety of pool area- never leaving area unattended or unlocked, check all doors and windows.
  • Daily cleanliness of pool areas; cleaning staff office, putting equipment away in storage closet neatly, inspecting pool area and reporting all problems in writing to supervisor. Assign various jobs to staff and post.

  1. INTERDIVISIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attend Aquatic Leadership meetings
  • Attend all required annual staff meetings
  • Assist in conducting & coordinating annual swim instructor trainings

  1. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma (associates degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Maintain certification in Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid
  • Must have current Lifeguard Certification: YMCA, Red Cross or Ellis
  • CPO preferred must attain within 3 months
  • Must be physically able to teach aquatic lessons & lift an adult male from the pool to the pool deck.
