Job description

Responsible for administratively managing a University department under the general direction of a functional Program Director or under the auspices of a Program Advising Committee and according to an established program plan. May participate in the development of program objectives and is responsible for achieving objectives within defined parameters set by University and/or department policies and procedures or technical principles. May require fiscal management of grants and other funds. May manage multiple programs. Requires the use of independent judgment to determine the best approach to accomplish objectives established in the program plan. May supervise staff as needed. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all Immunology Institute (II) communications  
  • Using existing UAB templates, creates and maintains the Immunology Institute website with weekly updates to ongoing and new II programs.   
  • Immunology education and training website  
  • STAR21 Awardees program o Healthy Donor Cohort 
  • Antibody Characterization and Serology Core 
  • Immunophenotyping Recharge facility 
  • NIH Cooperative Centers on Human Immunology (CCHI) 
  • COMET multiplex immunofluorescence service 
  • UAB's Global Research Resource for Human Tuberculosis  
  • II RFA content and application sites 
  • CCHI RFA content and application sites 
  • I-4WARD RFA content and application sites  
  • Manage and create content for the Institute's weekly newsletter, daily notifications, Institute X site, Instagram site   
  • Media communications for Institute events and noteworthy news items through UAB eReporter, HSOM Medicine News and UAB Research Matters  
  • Maintain II and I-4ward listserves, surveys, newsletters and communications  
  • Interface with II members and trainees; respond to queries for outreach, support and education.  
  • Designs and distributes all Institute-related promotional materials flyers, posters, graphs, videos for social media and website  
  • Design and maintains inventory and distribution of Institute swag for members and speakers.  
  • Ensure that all communication and materials are in compliance and integrated with UAB policies and procedures.  
  • Responsible for planning, organization and hosting official II events  
  • Take the lead on planning, organizing and executing Immunology Institute events, symposia, education and outreach events. 
  • Locate and arrange venues, catering, speaker invitations and accommodations and travel for external visitors. 
  • Organize program and facilities management. 
  • Annual II Town Hall  
  • Annual II Symposium and Dorothy Oliver and Drucilla Russ Jackson Vaccine Lecture  
  • Annual John Volanakis lecture  
  • Annual Robert Stroud lecture 
  • Annual Southeastern Immunology Symposium 
  • Annual II External and Internal Advisory Board Meetings 
  • Responsible for II Community Outreach programs   
  • Collaborates with the Microbiology Vice Chair for Education, the Undergraduate Immunology Society, Graduate Immunology Society, the American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) to organize and host outreach and education events (McWane, YMCA, schools, libraries)  
  • Lead efforts to reach out and create school contacts (VHCS, Hoover and Bham city school, etc.) 
  • Responsible for organizing and executing II meetings and II Director meetings  
  • Organize and coordinate all internal II staff and working group meetings 
  • Weekly II staff meeting  
  • Monthly II Directors meeting  
  • II Clinical Data Bundles and Spatial biology working groups o SIS planning committee  
  • Program in Immunology committee 
  • STAR21 Awardees   
  • Supervise reservations and utilization of II conference space.  
  • Maintain the Director's calendar and coordinate UAB travel for Director and Co-Directors  
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $43,890 - $71,320

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
