Job description

Weyerhaeuser's engineered lumber facility in Buckhannon, WV is seeking an Industrial Electrical Apprentice who has a desire to learn and become a Skilled Industrial Electrician. The successful candidate will be required to enroll in and complete a Formalized Apprenticeship Program. You should exhibit a strong commitment to safety, a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and a desire to work hand in hand supporting mechanics in a manufacturing facility performing a wide variety of electrical repairs and installation.
Starting pay is $27.17/hr
Key Functions:
  • Position requires Total Commitment to Safety and efficient maintenance operations.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position such as but not limited to; the ability to climb stairs and ladders, navigate catwalks, lifting / pushing (50lbs), stooping, and bending, and use aerial work platforms, fork trucks and manlifts at all heights and locations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in elevated/low temperatures (heat and cold) throughout the plant for the assigned shift.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, i.e. Windows, MS Office, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using blueprints, schematics, computers and appropriate test equipment.
  • General knowledge of test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and tools of the electrical trade.
  • General knowledge of electrical conduit bending and assembly.
  • General knowledge of single phase and 3 phase electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of the NEC and NFPA70E.
  • Must be able to function independently and in a team environment.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays as operating conditions require.
  • Must be willing to travel to off-site training classes as offered
  • Applicants will be required to pass the APT Metrics online apprentice electrical assessment
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment examination, drug test and background check.
Value added qualifications:
  • Electrical certifications, i.e. MSHA certifications, WV Electrician License, formal education or training (list certifications on job application).
  • Will be required to provide proof of safety-related courses or certifications.
  • Basic experience with PLC's, AC & DC drives.
  • Basic mechanical operations (hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.)
  • SAP or other enterprise CMMS software.
  • Basic experience with instrumentation, HVAC, communications systems, etc.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to learn and adapt.
Program Requirements:
  • The Successful Candidate will be required to enroll and complete the Formalized Apprenticeship Program consisting of on-the-job and in-school (online) training through RCBI. Tuition into the program will be paid by Weyerhaeuser with the successful candidate agreeing to the following:
  • Must commit to finishing the complete Apprenticeship Program within the required time frame and meet the appropriate performance standard.
  • The Successful Candidate's performance must also demonstrate trainee is qualified, within a six (6) month time frame, to continue in trainee position. Performance will be measured / monitored by requiring the Trainee to take a hands-on skill assessment.
  • To progress to an Industrial Shift Electrician, Trainee will be required to pass the APT Metrics online Electrician 2 Skill
  • Assessment and the hands-on presentation, no later than 1 year from the start of the position.
  • Trainee will be required to fill-in for shift electrical associates as open positions become available.
  • Failure will result in removal from the program and trainee position with Wage Plan guidelines being followed.
