Pavion and our family of companies are seeking a talented and motivated Licensed Alarm Technician to join our fire business unit.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform scheduled inspections and testing of commercial fire alarm and life-safety systems.
  • Inspect and test initiating devices, notification appliances, control panels, annunciators, power supplies, batteries, supervising station connections, sprinkler monitoring devices, and associated system components.
  • Troubleshoot system troubles, ground faults, intermittent conditions, communication failures, damaged wiring, defective devices, and programming issues.
  • Diagnose deficiencies and complete authorized repairs, replacements, and system corrections.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to improve system reliability and reduce recurring service issues.
  • Verify system operation following repairs, testing, programming, or equipment replacement.
  • Properly disable, bypass, and restore systems while following company impairment and life-safety procedures.
  • Coordinate system testing with customers, monitoring companies, building representatives, sprinkler technicians, electricians, and local fire departments when required.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports, service tickets, device inventories, deficiency reports, testing documentation, and customer signoffs.
  • Clearly document the location, condition, and recommended correction for every identified deficiency.
  • Take and attach photographs of system conditions, equipment, deficiencies, and completed repairs when required.
  • Communicate inspection results and repair recommendations clearly and professionally to customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, equipment, deficiencies, and completed work.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable NFPA standards, Massachusetts fire and electrical codes, manufacturer requirements, contract requirements, and local AHJ regulations.
  • Maintain assigned tools, testing equipment, company vehicle, inventory, and personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in manufacturer training, continuing education, safety training, and licensing requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and mentorship to apprentices or junior technicians when assigned.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests when scheduled.
  • Follow all company safety policies, customer site requirements, and lockout/tagout or impairment procedures.
  • Perform additional fire alarm service and inspection responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Active and valid Massachusetts Class D Systems Technician License in good standing.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, or repairing commercial fire alarm systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot conventional, addressable, and networked fire alarm systems.
  • Working knowledge of fire alarm inspection, testing, maintenance, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm drawings, riser diagrams, point lists, sequence-of-operation documents, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with applicable Massachusetts fire and electrical codes, NFPA 72, and local AHJ requirements.
  • Ability to operate fire alarm testing equipment, electrical meters, battery testers, laptop-based programming software, and standard hand and power tools.
  • Ability to accurately complete electronic service tickets and inspection reports using a tablet, laptop, or mobile device.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and work occasional nights, weekends, or overtime when required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Experience servicing Security systems.

  • Manufacturer certifications or direct experience with systems such as EST, Notifier, Gamewell-FCI, Fire-Lite, Siemens, Simplex, Bosch, Kidde, Potter, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, municipal, multifamily, and special-hazard facilities.
  • Experience programming or making minor system modifications within the limitations of the technician's license, training, and company authorization.
  • Experience completing fire alarm inspection reports using FireNspec, BuildingReports, Inspect Point, ServiceTrade, or similar software.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Massachusetts Class B Journeyman Electrician License or additional relevant licenses and certifications.

Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
  • Regularly stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work with their hands.

  • Safely climb and work from ladders, lifts, and elevated work platforms.
  • Work above ceilings and in mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, stairwells, rooftops, warehouses, and active construction environments.
  • Lift and carry tools, ladders, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in environments that may include dust, noise, temperature changes, confined areas, and occupied customer facilities.
  • Distinguish audible and visual alarm signals and identify wiring and device markings.

Schedule and Travel
  • Full-time position, generally Monday through Friday.

  • Daily travel to customer locations throughout Massachusetts and surrounding service areas.
  • Occasional early-morning, evening, weekend, overtime, or emergency work may be required.
  • Participation in the department's rotating on-call schedule may be required.
  • Some overnight travel may be required based on customer location or project needs.

Pay Range: The hourly pay range for this position is $40.00-$55.00 per hour. The starting hourly pay will be determined based on qualifications, experience, education, skills, certifications, and internal equity. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
