Undergraduate Research Assistant -Dr. Moones Alamooti

  • $16.00 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.


Assist with engineering design research on geothermal-powered corn drying systems funded by the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council (NDCUC). The project develops engineering designs that use Williston Basin geothermal resources to replace propane in commercial-scale corn drying systems for North Dakota corn producers.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Data compilation and organization.
  • Literature review support on grain drying engineering and geothermal applications.
  • Basic calculations under graduate student supervision.
  • Vendor research and contact information compilation.
  • Preparation of graphics and figures for reports and presentations.
  • Assistance with technology transfer materials production.
  • Assist with other duties when needed.

Minimum Requirements
  • Currently enrolled UND undergraduate student in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions from graduate student supervisor and PI
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • Interest in renewable energy, geothermal systems, or agricultural energy applications
  • Experience with literature search tools and reference managers
  • Basic graphics or figure preparation skills (PowerPoint, Excel charts, or similar)
