Apprentice - Machine Operator

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize, plan and prepare work. Analyze tasks and establish appropriate sequence of operations
  • Read prints & job orders for product specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances and machine set-up requirements
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines
  • Set-up and safely operate various machining equipment such as manual and CNC lathes, mills, jig bores, and grinders in order to machine or grind components to customer specifications
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc..) 
  • Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have math & mechanical skills/aptitude
  • Must have the ability & desire to do precision work
  • Able to work well independently and cooperatively with team
  • Candidates must be available to work primarily daylight, but also have availability for afternoon and/or midnight shifts as needed, stand 8-10 hours per day, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Education/Experience:

  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • No experience necessary, however, previous experience with lathes, mills, grinders, blueprint reading and measurement tools such as calipers & micrometers is a plus
