About the Role


We are looking for Carpenter Apprentices from 1st through 4th year to join our construction
team. You’ll work alongside experienced carpenters while continuing to develop your skills and
take on greater responsibility as you progress through your apprenticeship.


The role also provides opportunities to support and teach more junior apprentices as your
experience grows.


What You’ll Do


Responsibilities will vary based on your apprenticeship level and experience.


1st Year Apprentice
- Safely use, maintain and store common construction tools and equipment
- Understand common construction terminology, components and processes

- Develop competent framing skills
- Participate in Effect’s safety program


2nd Year Apprentice
In addition to the above:
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Lead and instruct 1st year apprentices
- Perform ICF, framing layout and concrete placing work
- Complete tasks assigned by senior carpenters with limited supervision


3rd Year Apprentice
In addition to the above:
- Lead and instruct 1st and 2nd year apprentices and labourers
- Perform forming and rebar work
- Complete site layout and grading
- Perform concrete finishing
- Understand building systems, their installation and how they work together
- Complete accurate site takeoffs
- Install windows and doors
- Read and apply building codes
- Complete tasks assigned by senior carpenters with limited supervision


4th Year Apprentice
In addition to the above:
- Perform roofing, insulation and vapour barrier, drywall, and interior and exterior finishing
work
- Lead and instruct junior apprentices and labourers
- Start and complete most aspects of home construction with minimal supervision and to
- Effect Home Builders’ standards
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and install components accordingly
- All apprentices are expected to participate in Effect’s safety program and contribute to a safe,
respectful job site.

- Able to read and interpret blueprints
- Able to provide tools and PPE as required
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to perform physically demanding work on a consistent basis
- Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s licence and good driving record
- Available to work a 44-hour work week
