Position Description
The VDC Designer works closely with internal and external customers to support prefabrication processes through detailed digital models while creating drawings, writing reports and evaluations. Follow the Tweet/Garot virtual construction standards and workflow to produce layout drawings using Autodesk products including Revit and AutoCAD for ongoing projects and phases. This role requires a solid understanding of metal fabrication & Installation practices so they can lead projects from all areas of the company. Potential travel to customer locations to aid in troubleshooting and/or collaboration of design.
Position Requirements
Description of Duties:
  • Build and detail digital models of mechanical systems for fabrication utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools
  • Initial job set up within Revit
  • Lead design, scheduling and deliverable efforts
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal team members in design and manufacturing
  • Follow Tweet Garot modeling, drawing and numbering standards
  • Create models, drawings, layouts, and assist with production drawings (detail and assembly drawings) and construction fabrication drawings from the field
  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings
  • Communicates with the shop fabrication teams and field teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Open to complete new training opportunities
  • Assist with engineering calculations and constructability items when it comes to prefabrication
  • Assist with mentoring the young team members with general coordination practices
  • Assist with reviewing submittal documents and identifying problems with PM's/AM's
  • Advance workflows through Pre-Construction to manufacturing and the field and continue to identify inefficiencies and bring resolution to them
  • Effective model management throughout the project

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Degree in mechanical or construction design, or a completed a sheet metal trade apprenticeship (Journeyman Card)
  • Background in Revit and a strong understanding of construction practices and duct systems
  • Inventor/Vault knowledge is a plus
  • Understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools
  • 3 years of Revit experience
  • Experience using Autodesk products
  • Strong technology skills, including Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD MEP, MS Office, Blue Beam
  • Point layout tool software experience
  • 3D scanning software experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction and coordination documents with technical drawing expertise
  • Strong spatial visualization capabilities
  • Flexibility, time management and organizational skills, excellent follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are a must
  • Desire and ability to learn new skills quickly and to take direction
  • General construction math is required
