Rodriguez Consulting, LLC (Rodriguez) is seeking a motivated Engineering Technician I to join our Engineering Support Group in Fishtown, Philadelphia! This full-time, hourly, non-exempt role supports engineering and land surveying projects, providing hands-on technical assistance and data collection that drives project success.
As an Engineering Technician I, you'll contribute to the preparation of base and design plans for water, sewer, roadway, ADA, and site projects. You'll perform field surveying, collect utility and topographic data, assist with calculations, and prepare documentation for regulatory submissions. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, gain exposure to infrastructure design projects, and grow professionally within a supportive team environment.
You'll leverage your knowledge of CADD software (AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D) and 3D visualization tools to support accurate design deliverables. You'll also collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and junior staff to ensure quality, compliance, and timely project delivery.
Responsibilities
  • Apply established engineering and land surveying principles under supervision to complete assigned projects.
  • Prepare existing conditions and base plans using CADD software for civil engineering and surveying projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of design plans for water, sewer, ADA ramps, and private site designs under engineer guidance.
  • Revise drawings in response to comments from City agencies.
  • Perform QA/QC on work products created by Engineering Aides and apprentices.
  • Conduct land surveying data collection using robotic total stations, GPS, and other surveying equipment.
  • Prepare and submit required forms and applications to municipal, state, and federal agencies.
  • Perform calculations for project quantities, bills of materials, and design elements such as sewer inverts, curb elevations, and sidewalk slopes.
  • Provide 3D visualization support for design scenarios as needed.
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians, engineering aides, and apprentices in technical tasks.
  • Participate in professional development, completing a minimum of 12 hours of training annually to stay current in industry practices, software, and regulations.

Requirements
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 30 credit hours in post-secondary technical training in engineering, construction, or architectural technology

Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience as an engineering aide at the full-performance level or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience performing field surveying, data collection, and plan preparation
  • Familiarity with water, sewer, roadway, and ADA design standards

Certifications:
  • OSHA Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications required
  • Certified Survey Technician (Level I or II) preferred

Skills:
  • Strong technical ability in engineering plan preparation, design calculations, and surveying
  • Proficiency with CADD and 3D visualization tools
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines under supervision
