Pool Title POOL- Maintenance Technician I (Apprenticeship) Pool Number S26-25 Announcement Summary
This is a continuous recruitment pool not specifically advertised.
The pool is continuous in order to develop a qualified pool of interested candidates.
We invite applications to be submitted for potential openings.
The Maintenance Technician I Apprentice will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building construction and maintenance tasks relating to the renovation, upkeep, and operation of campus buildings and facilities; to perform electrical and plumbing maintenance and repair work; to perform carpentry tasks; and to repair and maintain HVAC equipment.
Duties
Essential Duties-Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
ย 
  • Perform a variety of carpentry tasks to repair and construct walls and partitions; install,ย 
  • replace, and repair doors.
  • ย Assist in the renovation, remodeling, and repair of campus building interiors and exteriors.
  • ย Install ceilings and carpeting; repair roofs.
  • ย Repair and install plumbing as necessary; replace broken fixtures, clean stopped drains and repair leaks.
  • ย Perform electrical system wiring and installations; install new lights and replace lights.
  • ย Operate a variety of electrical equipment, metering and testing devices, machines, and tools; drive motorized equipment.
  • ย Install outlets, panels, switching equipment, photoelectric cells, motors, and related electrical appurtenances and equipment.
  • ย Repair and install electrical equipment such as motors, heaters, and circuit breakers.
  • ย Replace defective lamps, sockets, ballasts, and fixtures.
  • ย Repair, replace, and maintain a variety of mechanical heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment such as compressors, boilers, fans, blowers, cooling towers, motors, valves, ducts, registers, and dampers.ย 
  • ย Perform routine preventive maintenance on heating and cooling equipment; service compressors, lubricate equipment, change oil and filters, replace worn pulleys and belts as necessary.
  • ย Clean equipment, equipment rooms, ducts, pipes, and related equipment and fixtures.
  • ย Install new or replacement heating and air conditioning equipment.
  • ย Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair electrical system faults in HVAC systems.
  • ย Repair and replace thermostats.
  • ย Operate and monitor the performance of heating and cooling systems.
  • ย Operate a variety of equipment, machines, and tools used in HVAC system maintenance and repair; drive motorized equipment.
  • ย Change and charge air conditioning compressors.
  • ย Test and treat water and water handling systems used in cooling equipment.
  • ย Maintain records on work performed.
  • ย Perform duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Training:
ย 
  • An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent.ย 
  • ย Students enrolled in a degree program related to the position duties may be considered in lieu of the degree requirements with verification of enrollment and submission of transcripts at the time of application.
  • ย Extensive experience directly related to the position duties, may be considered in lieu of the degree requirements.ย 
ย 
License or Certificate:
ย 
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license with good driving record of five years is required with no more than one (1) minor accident or violation in the past three (3) years.ย 
  • ย Must have begun or completed the Hepatitis B immunizations.

Experience:
ย 
Two years of experience performing a variety of skilled building construction and maintenance duties related to designated trade and/or field.
