Job description

Status:Full-Time|Closing Date: July 2nd, 2026


Appraiser Trainee

This position provides essential technical and administrative support to the appraisal team in the inspection, classification, and valuation of real and personal properties county-wide. Working under the direct supervision of the County Assessor and the instructional guidance of the Appraiser II and Chief Deputy Assessor, the successful candidate performs complex duties encompassing the entire mass valuation process. Key responsibilities include assisting with property fieldwork by measuring, sketching, and photographing new and existing construction, as well as evaluating building plans, blueprints, and plat maps. The assistant utilizes computer-assisted mass appraisal software to process replacement costs, itemize structural component parts, and maintain meticulous, standardized electronic property files.


Candidates must possess an high school diploma with at least one year of professional work experience related to real estate, building construction, or property appraisal. This position requires a valid driver's license, mandatory out-of-town travel for professional meetings, and the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening. To maintain employment, the incumbent must achieve several state-mandated professional benchmarks within strict timeframes. Specifically, the employee must complete 75 educational hours from an accredited pre-license school and pass all required course exams to secure an Appraiser Trainee designation with the Utah Department of Commerce within twelve months of hire. Furthermore, the individual must successfully obtain both a Licensed Appraiser designation through the Utah Department of Commerce and an Ad Valorem Appraiser designation through the Utah State Tax Commission within thirty-six months of placement in the position.
