The Applied Intelligence team, part of AI, Search & Knowledge Platforms, builds applications that bring intelligent capabilities to people through Siri, search, and new surfaces that haven't shipped yet. We work across the full stack, from native apps and prototyping tools to server integrations, with teams across Apple. There is a huge opportunity in bringing intelligent capabilities to personal data in a way that is secure, private, and only possible in the Apple ecosystem.

Description

We are looking for an experienced software engineer who can work broadly across the stack and adapt as priorities shift. Ideally you have deep technical understanding of iOS or macOS, experience building systems that use the full capabilities of the platform, and the ability to integrate machine learning and AI technologies into production experiences. A strong understanding of modern AI systems and the ability to collaborate closely with ML engineers will be critical. Having strong technical opinions, a bias toward experimentation, and the focus to deliver on time are key to being successful here.

Responsibilities
  • Build native applications and systems that use the full power of iOS and macOS to deliver Apple's knowledge and information experiences
  • Prototype frameworks and UI to rapidly try out new concepts across search and new product surfaces
  • Collaborate cross functionally with teams across Apple (iCloud, search, and others) to integrate capabilities end to end
  • Work alongside ML engineers to bring intelligent features into shipping products
  • Stay connected with the rapidly changing AI landscape and bring relevant ideas back to the team
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience building software solutions (frameworks, UI, services) for iOS or macOS
  • Track record of working cross functionally with engineers, designers, and ML engineers to ship products
  • Demonstrated ability to work across the full stack (UI, application logic, networking/services)
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong product focus and ability to advocate for the end user experience
  • Deep understanding of and strong opinions on software quality
  • Comfortable taking ownership and driving quality end to end
  • Experience building software that makes full use of platform capabilities
  • Familiarity with search technologies, information retrieval, or knowledge systems
  • Familiarity with ML concepts or experience integrating ML models into applications

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You’ll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation.
