MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Currently enrolled in, or graduated within the last two years from, an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited higher education institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic computer applications (Windows, MS Office Suite)
Ability to perform standard desktop/computer operations, including sitting for extended periods and using a computer for long durations
Ability to communicate in person and via electronic means.
Ability to travel to the College Park, MD area for the program's final events


ORGANIZATION SUMMARY STATEMENT
Established in 2018, the University of Maryland Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security's primary sponsor is the Office of the Under Secretary for Defense Intelligence and Security, serving the government as an independent, objective trusted agent. One of 15 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers, ARLIS conducts applied research and benefits from a sole-source contract which expedites engagements with offices throughout the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.

The University of Maryland's Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) is seeking student interns for the Research in Intelligence and Security (RISC) program for the summer of 2026. The internship program encapsulates many different academic areas of study, and each team of interns will encounter a different set of problems and requirements. Projects will broadly align with ARLIS' mission areas. Each intern project will support the Defense, Intelligence, and Security Communities. May require occasional travel to project sites or other locations related to research activities


Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance. If selected, you must meet the requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security clearance investigation that includes criminal and credit history checks, as well as verification of U.S. citizenship, birth, education, employment, and military history.

This vacancy is strictly reserved for pre-selected candidates who have already been officially accepted into the 2026 RISC Internship Program.
