Reports To: Health Insurance Small Team Leader


Position Mission Statement

The Health Insurance Advisor’s mission is to educate clients on health coverage options and present a value-based recommendation for coverage. The Health Advisor will achieve this by breaking down coverage into easy-to-understand language, thereby simplifying the process for the client.


Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Educating clients on health coverage options
  • Uncover trust expansion opportunities
  • Answer complex client coverage questions as requested by Health Dept CSC
  • Administrative, Licensing & Contracting
  • Prospecting with clientele
  • Quote and sell health business to achieve weekly/monthly goals
  • Adhere to company compliance and underwriting guidelines
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of health product changes
  • Complete AHIP, FFM and product specific training deadlines
  • Compile client data to assess carrier options to make recommendations
  • Works with Financial Advisors and Tax preparer to ensure the advice given is within the context of a client’s overall financial picture
  • Thoroughly communicates out of pocket client expenses to set accurate product expectations
  • Adheres to a compliant sales process by obtaining necessary SOA’s, using a compliant marketing and sales process
  • Engages client in the presentation to ensure they understand the material presented. Elicit a response from client whether they have concerns about proceeding with coverage.
  • Document all client meeting notes within one business day of meeting held
  • Obtains completed health applications and signatures for carrier compliance
  • Review Medicare, Marketplace or Group health coverage options with clients
  • Simplify complex coverage concepts thereby equipping clients to make informed health coverage decisions
  • Review coverage and cost analysis information when multiple options are available.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Required Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be well organized with time, resources, physical office space, and client documents/information, detail oriented, and be able to manage a large workload
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and clients.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Thorough knowledge of carrier, underwriting and binding requirements.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be intrinsically motivated and able to work individually with little direction.
  • Must be a team player and able to collaborate with other Insurance team members and cross-functional department members.
  • Must be coachable, goal oriented, grasp concepts quickly, able to work in a fast-paced environment, embrace change, and have a strong desire to learn and grow in the insurance services industry.
  • Must exemplify the firm’s corporate values and represent the company well in the community and in all dealings with vendors, customers, and other affiliates.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or related field preferred; and/or equivalent industry experience required
  • Life & Health license required (or ability to obtain)
