Job description

Job Title: Cost Estimator
Department: Sales
Reports To: Inside Sales Manager
Exemption Classification: Salary, Exempt
Summary: Responsible to estimate industrial machinery cost, write technical proposals, contact vendors for material pricing, collaborate with engineers for concept development, review labor hours with manufacturing supervisors, develop job budgets, be proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word, and have basic understanding industrial manufacturing processes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Accurately interpret part drawings, machine schematics, and technical specifications for the purpose of creating industrial machine concepts and related content.
2. Calculate accurate material and labor quantities for the build of industrial machinery.
3. Ability to create a detailed cost estimates for pricing using Excel spreadsheet for bidding purposes.
4. Present priced estimate for gross margin position review and approval by the Applications Engineering Manager or VP of Sales.
5. Write comprehensive industrial machinery proposals that describe function and content for bidding purposes.
6. Present written industrial machinery proposals for review and evaluation by the Applications Engineering Manager or VP of Sales.
7. Be able to communicate with Regional Sales Managers (RSM) and customers for the purpose of reviewing project bid request and machinery specifications.
8. Ability to multitask job responsibilities effectively in fast paced environment.
9. Develop written proposals with specific attention within bid submission deadlines.
10. Use CRM for source and document technical information.
11. Maintain communications with material, component manufacturers, and system integrators for collaborative bid projects.
12. Obtain vendor pricing for outsourced components and specialty equipment.
13. Represent the company with professionalism and integrity both internally and externally.
14. Lead Project Definition Meeting for the purpose of presenting as sold proposals to Management, Engineering and Manufacturing team members.
15. Attend engineering design review meetings.
16. Participate, when necessary, in the clean testing of parts for process development related to industrial machinery bid projects.
17. Participate in the monthly review process for post-sale analysis of job budgets.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience: Associate degree preferred. Knowledge of basic engineering principles, math fundamentals, Basic CAD knowledge, three to five years of job-related experience.
Language Skills: Communicate verbally and/or in writing with other employees, other departments, and supervision as to work in progress, problems and/or completion. Must have above average ability to express oneself in written and verbal form.
Mathematical Skills: Be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide basic numbers. Calculate percentages and perform advanced mathematical procedures.
Reasoning Ability: Be able to identify work process problems and possible solutions.
Physical Demands: Sit at workstation for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to adjust visual focus. Must be able to climb stairs, as necessary. Some travel may be required.
Work Environment:
Traditional office atmosphere. Temperature standard. Quiet noise level. May be required to go into factory environment.
