Job description

Magnetics, a division of Spang & Company, has an opening for an Applications Engineer based at its Pittsburgh, PA office. This position will serve as a technical liaison between Sales and Manufacturing by determining engineering requirements and analyzing the performance of parts and materials to fulfill customer requirements while maintaining the superior performance of Magnetics’ products.

Magnetics is a leading world supplier of precision soft magnetic components and materials to the electronics industry. We specialize in the research, design, and production of high-quality powder cores, ferrite cores, and tape wound cores for applications such as chokes, inductors, filters, transformers, and power supply components used in alternative energy, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), telecommunications, aerospace, military, medical, and other electronic systems.

The primary responsibilities for this position include collecting and analyzing product performance data using datasheets, material curves, and engineering equations; supporting Sales with product specifications, performance information, test data, competitive information, and application recommendations; and assisting with special projects, engineering samples, and new product development. This role will work closely with Manufacturing, Development, and Quality Control teams to support new product designs, evaluate production feasibility, resolve technical issues, and provide technical and commercial support to customers while serving as technical liaison between Magnetics Sales staff and production. Additional responsibilities include presenting commercial and technical topics to customers, maintaining internal technical documentation and processes, and collaborating on future product and company initiatives.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. Candidates should have experience with technical data analysis and possess advanced skills in Excel, Minitab, or similar analytical tools. Experience with technical sales, customer support, product development, or engineering projects is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, organizational, project management, and technical decision-making skills are required.
