Job Summary
The Vice President of Transmission Field Services is responsible for the safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operation, maintenance, construction support, and restoration of the company's transmission system field operations. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for transmission line, substation, relay/protection field services, emergency response, contractor management, and workforce development activities across the service territory.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Vice President ensures operational excellence through strong safety leadership, execution discipline, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and continuous improvement initiatives while enabling grid modernization, system resiliency, and customer reliability objectives.
The role partners closely with Transmission Engineering, Asset Management, System Operations, Supply Chain, Vegetation Management, Regulatory, and Operating Company operations leadership.
Provides input, direction, and leadership on transmission operations matters for the transmission organization and others in AEP, and in pertinent forums outside AEP.
Compliance with all applicable safety and reliability standards, contractual and tariff obligations, and all federal, state, and local regulations and laws in the operation of AEP's transmission assets.
Develops, coordinates and delivers the Transmission Field Services' safety program in alignment with the Transmission and Corporate safety goals.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business Administration or related technical field or equivalent education and/or experience. BSEE from an ABET accredited college, MSEE preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible utility industry experience in electric transmission or distribution operations, field services, construction, maintenance, engineering, or related operational disciplines.
Typically possesses seven (7) years of leadership experience managing large operational organizations, including multi-level leadership responsibility.
Other degree or a high school diploma/ or equivalent will be considered with typically 16+ years of experience in electric utility operations with demonstrated progression in leadership roles.
Demonstrated experience leading field operations for a large electric utility, transmission owner/operator, or comparable infrastructure organization.
Experience managing:
  • Transmission and Distribution line operations and maintenance
  • Substation operations and maintenance
  • Emergency restoration and storm response
  • Contractor and vendor management
  • Capital and O&M budget execution
  • Workforce safety and operational performance

Proven ability to lead geographically dispersed teams in a 24/7 operational environment.
Experience working within regulated utility environments, including compliance with NERC, FERC, OSHA, and applicable state regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated success leading operational transformation, reliability improvement, process improvement, or organizational change initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and present ideas clearly both orally and in writing, including making presentations and recommendations to senior management and external audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong customer focus and experience serving customers.
Strong knowledge of:
  • High-voltage transmission systems
  • Transmission maintenance strategies
  • Grid resiliency programs
  • Incident Command system (ICS) and emergency restoration management
  • Reliability-centered maintenance principles
  • Utility work management systems and asset analytics.

Experience integrating field operations with engineering, asset strategy, and capital planning functions.
Proven track record of improving safety performance, reliability metrics, and operational efficiency.
Experience leading union and non-union workforces.
Strong financial acumen with responsibility for large capital and O&M budgets.
