What You'll Do as a Plant Operations Technician 2

  • Maintain the buildings, equipment, and grounds of hospital-owned properties under the direction of the Director of Plant Operations.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to emergencies in the work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers.
  • Handle interactions with patients and families in an ethical manner, practicing compassion and respect.
  • Support top-tier outcomes for patient experience, quality, and safety.
  • Adhere to UNC Health Appalachian policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior.
  • Approach work with a bias for action, efficiency, and personal accountability.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • One year of experience preferred.
  • Licensure/Certifications:
    • None required.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong communication skills; ability to work within the chain of command using positive verbal and non-verbal techniques.
    • Competence in performing plant operations and maintenance tasks.
    • Exceptional customer service for patients, families, staff, and physicians.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Continuous standing and walking, often 8+ hours per shift; frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull 50+ lbs; manual dexterity and mobility required.
  • Frequent hand, finger, and wrist repetition; near visual acuity and close eye work.
  • Exposure to hazards from electrical, mechanical, and power equipment; chemicals; and unpleasant elements such as slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Work in vibration-prone and cramped spaces for extended periods.
  • Subject to occasional extended hours and emergencies as facility needs require.
