Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director, Wholesale Natural Gas Marketing will lead SouthStar's Large Commercial & Industrial (LC&I) organization while expanding the Company’s wholesale natural gas marketing capabilities and positioning SouthStar for growth in wholesale market segments, including Large Load and Asset Management Agreement (AMA) markets. The role is responsible for driving revenue growth through the origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of high-value transactions that leverage SouthStar's retail footprint, storage, and pipeline assets while expanding the Company's presence in strategic wholesale markets.

Success in this position requires deep expertise in the energy sector, demonstrated knowledge of asset optimization and portfolio risk management, and strong leadership capabilities.

The Director must excel in fast paced, competitive markets, which include existing markets (GA, FL, Carolinas, IL, OH, MI and PA) while identifying new opportunities and delivering measurable commercial results that advance SouthStar’s wholesale strategy.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and develop a team of commercial professionals responsible for LC&I customer acquisition, account management, and business development. Position the Company to pursue new wholesale opportunities and generate sustained revenue growth through alternative supply optimization, wholesale customer acquisition, and expansion of commercial opportunities within core markets.
  • Identify, pursue, and originate new wholesale natural gas supply and marketing opportunities targeting large-load customers, power sector clients, and asset-related opportunities that support SouthStar’s core competitive markets.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of AMA origination and management, including opportunity identification, RFP development, commercial structuring, negotiation, contract execution, and ongoing performance oversight.
  • Lead the negotiation and execution of NAESB agreements, working collaboratively with legal, regulatory, and credit.
  • Partner closely with Trading, Risk, Operations, Credit, Legal, and Customer Operations teams to structure transactions, optimize assets, mitigate risk, and ensure successful execution of wholesale and AMA activities.
  • Identify market trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape to inform strategic planning and drive growth within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Actively participate in industry trade associations and stakeholder coalitions to monitor and advance SouthStar policy positions related to wholesale energy markets.
  • Direct analysis and development of key deliverables to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate governance (SouthStar RMP) associated with structured AMA activities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering or related discipline.
Preference
  • Masters degree or MBA
Related Work Experience Required
  • 20+ years of experience acquiring and managing customers and assets in wholesale markets, with a particular focus on the Southeast & Midcontinent United States.
  • 10+ years in a leadership role in the energy industry.
  • 10+ years experience negotiating and executing AMA agreements, including complex, multi-year agreements.
Knowledge & Skills Required
  • In Depth understanding of federal and state regulations impacting both physical and financial trading Examples include pipeline tariffs, Utility tariffs & Federal regulations impacting both markets.
  • Advanced understanding of the principles of physical and financial natural gas trading markets and how underlying AMA transactions create commercial value for the Company.
  • Expertise in spreadsheet modeling and financial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation and communication skills.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Hybrid schedule in the office/on-site with 1 remote day from home and subject to change per business.
  • Occasional local and overnight travel.
