Job description

GI Care for Kids, aka, The Childrenโ€™s Center for Digestive Health Care (CCDHC), is looking to hire a Hospitalist APP.
The Childrenโ€™s Center for Digestive Health Care Hospitalist APP will provide inpatient medical care to patients of CCDHC through coordination, collaboration, referral, and education with supervision of CCDHC Attending physicians.
I. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hold a Masterโ€™s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
  • Current certification from NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, or equivalent.
  • Current licensure or immediate eligibility for licensure as a PA or NP in the State of Georgia.
  • Maintain DEA registration as applicable and required by law.
  • Excellent physical exam, differential diagnosis development, medical decision making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and function as a member of the healthcare delivery team with CCDHC supervising physicians, residents, nurses, students, and CCDHC administrative staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in public relations and public speaking skills.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Understand and adhere to all laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to PA or NP practice in the State of Georgia and the United States.
II. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The CCDHC Hospitalist APP will provide services for CCDHC physicians at Childrenโ€™s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite (CHOA). Providing services at other locations will be subject to the rules and regulations of the particular location.
  • The APP may not provide clinical or administrative services in any manner for any pediatric practice or childrenโ€™s hospital entity other than CCDHC unless prior written consent is obtained.
  • The Hospitalist APP will maintain hospital privileges and credentialing at CHOA in good standing.
  • The Hospitalist APP will practice with the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and with sensitivity to all patients and their families.
  • All patient care duties performed by the Hospitalist APP will be under appropriate and accepted state and federal standards of physician supervision.
  • The Hospitalist APP may gather and document a database on new or established patients with new or existing problems which may include: complete medical history and physical examination, daily hospital progress notes and physical exam, review of
  • diagnostic test results, medical record review, differential diagnosis development, overall assessment formulation, and treatment plan development and implementation.
  • Scope of Practice: The following scope of practice shall at all times be in compliance with Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examinerโ€™s policies.
  • The Hospitalist APP may order appropriate diagnostic studies and initiate an appropriate treatment plan including medical and pharmacological management in accordance with standard practice of CCDHC physicians, Georgia state law, and federal law.
  • The Hospitalist APP, if qualified by training and experience determined by the supervising physician, may order and/or perform medical treatments, diagnostic procedures, written medication orders or prescriptions, consultations, order services, order equipment, or other tasks delegated by the supervising physician which fall within the usual scope of practice of the supervising physician.
  • The Hospitalist APP may evaluate patients for discharge, and document discharge planning, instructions, treatment plan, medications, and follow up.
  • The Hospitalist APP will transmit all pertinent patient care information orally or through notation in the patientโ€™s medical record to the supervising physician for review. The APP is responsible for documentation of medical records for patients with whom the APP has been involved in their care or at the specific request of the supervising physician.
  • The APP may instruct, educate, or counsel patients and their families and involve them in informed decision making with regards to their complete scope of medical care including patient referrals when appropriate and per the delegation of the GI Care for Kids supervising physician.
  • The Hospitalist APP will provide on-call telephone coverage according to the agreed upon schedule. The APP will gather appropriate information, develop and communicate initial plan of action, document all pertinent information for later review, and contact the supervising physician on call when deemed necessary. A supervising physician will be readily available to assist the APP when needed at all times the APP is on call.
  • In a life threatening situation, when the supervising physician is not present, the APP may initiate appropriate evaluation and treatment.
  • The Hospitalist APP will maintain and enhance their individual knowledge of current pediatric issues relevant to their area of care.
  • The Hospitalist APP will participate in and support the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care delivered and services provided by CCDHC and will identify continuous quality improvement goals.
  • The Hospitalist APP is encouraged and will be supported in their participation in relevant clinical activities including, but not limited to: case conferences, journal club, academic lectures, precepting students, and professional committee appointments.
  • Additional job duties and functions may be added and will be determined by CCDHC physicians, CCDHC business manager, or the APP and will be implemented after an adequate period of discussion between the involved parties.
HOSPITALIST APP WORK SCHEDULE
  • The hospitalist APP position is full time and considered 1.0 FTE unless otherwise agreed upon. We are open to lower FTE if needed for the applicant.
  • At this time hours are 8-5 pm. However, there may be needs for weekend coverage in the future.
  • Moonlighting with additional payment by hour at physician request is optional.
  • Hospitalist APPs are expected to divide the following holidays: New Yearโ€™s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas eve (NOT Christmas day), MLK, Labor Day, July 4th, Memorial Day.
  • Major holiday hours are 8 am-2 pm
  • Minor holiday hours are 8 am-4 pm
  • Occasional parent call coverage from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm may be required from APPs and would be divided equally among hospitalist APP
  • Approval prior to vacation is required to ensure at least 2 APPs are covering the inpatient service
  • The Hospitalist APP agrees that no scheduling guideline can anticipate all possible conflicts or potential changes in patient volume, staffing, or otherwise. The APP will, to the best of their ability, make every effort to be flexible and accommodating in meeting
  • the needs of the patients and CCDHC through schedule changes after an adequate period of discussion.
  • In the interest of patient care and the stability of CCDHC, the APP will, to the best of their ability, respond immediately to acute, emergent, or unforeseen circumstances which result in significant scheduling insufficiencies or inability to provide adequate care for existing patient volumes.
