Position Overview

The Commissioning Engineer II is an intermediate-level role responsible for independently planning, coordinating, and executing commissioning activities across commercial and industrial construction projects. The position leads day-to-day commissioning efforts, coordinates with project stakeholders, and provides technical oversight throughout planning, testing, documentation, and project turnover. As part of Anova's Owner's Technical Representative (OTR) team, this role provides independent oversight to help ensure building systems and equipment are installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), design intent, and contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities throughout all phases of assigned projects.
  • Develop and implement project-specific C2QA plans, commissioning schedules, testing procedures, and project requirements.
  • Review commissioning documentation, test procedures, submittals, and contractor deliverables to verify compliance with the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), design intent, contract documents, and applicable industry standards.
  • Lead equipment inspections, pre-functional inspections, functional performance testing, and system verification activities while providing independent oversight on behalf of the owner.
  • Identify commissioning issues, document deficiencies, facilitate issue resolution, and verify completion of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with owners, contractors, design teams, vendors, commissioning specialists, and project stakeholders to support successful project execution and project turnover.
  • Prepare commissioning reports, project metrics, executive summaries, and turnover documentation while communicating project status, risks, and recommendations to project leadership and clients.
  • Support and mentor junior commissioning engineers by providing technical guidance, reviewing documentation, and assisting with commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Anova's commissioning program by sharing lessons learned, identifying process improvements, and promoting commissioning best practices across projects.
Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of mechanical or electrical construction experience (mechanical preferred); Bachelor’s degree or technical/trade school education in a related discipline a plus (engineering not required).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in both technical and interpersonal contexts.
  • Working knowledge of common building systems (HVAC, plumbing, normal and emergency power, and building automation), with the ability to quickly learn and apply new technical knowledge.
  • Foundational knowledge of construction quality assurance processes and basic project management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Procore, and Facility Grid; BIM/3D modeling experience preferred.
