Annuities are financial products offered by insurance companies that provide a series of payments to an individual, typically as a way to generate steady income during retirement. They are often purchased with a lump sum or through a series of payments and can be structured in various ways, such as immediate or deferred, fixed or variable. Annuities are commonly used to ensure a reliable income stream that can last for life or a set period, helping to manage longevity risk. However, they come with fees, and their suitability depends on individual financial goals and circumstances.
