Job description

The Manager, Reporting and Analytics, under the supervision of the Associate Director for Fundraising Data Management, is responsible for transforming raw data into actionable insights by scoping, developing and maintaining interactive dashboards within Power BI. This includes data from Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge and Luminate Online platforms, as well as data from spreadsheets, third party sources and more. They will utilize SQL development and will be responsible for modeling, reporting user interfaces, and power query in the Power BI environment.

This position is preferably based in Washington, D.C.; but could be fully remote for the right candidate. The position offers a salary range of $70k-$75k max. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scoping New Dashboards

  • Collaborate with fundraisers, analysts, and other stakeholders to define scope and specifications for new Power BI dashboards.
  • Gathers and documents business requirements and works toward stakeholder sign-off prior to development.
  • Develops an understanding of business needs to anticipate future reporting requests while meeting current requirements.

Maintaining and Updating Existing Dashboards

  • Maintains and enhances existing Power BI reports by identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Works with stakeholders to implement report updates and enhancements.
  • Ensures data accuracy and integrity, particularly when impacted by annual updates or changes to source systems.

Data Ingestion for Reporting

  • Supports ingestion of data from SQL Server tables, views, and stored procedures into Power BI using Power Query.
  • Supports ingestion of data from Amazon Athena data lake.
  • Performs Power Query (M) transformations to clean, shape, and prepare data for reporting.
  • Collaborates with the Enterprise Data Management team and external vendors on new or updated data connections.
  • Documents data connections and refresh processes according to organizational standards.

Building Data Models

  • Designs and maintains Power BI data models using established data warehousing principles.
  • Works with fact tables and dimension tables to build and maintain star schema–based models.
  • Defines and maintains table relationships to support accurate and efficient reporting.

Building Power BI Reports

  • Builds and maintains interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Implements visuals, filters, slicers, and basic report-level UI enhancements.
  • Apply formatting and usability best practices to ensure reports are clear, consistent, and easy to use.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 – 4 years of work experience in a nonprofit setting with experience in Power BI, SQL, and report building and data flows required.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Ability to prioritize own workload, developing long-range objectives and meeting them.
  • Utilize existing data sets to create reports and dashboards.
  • Experience conducting quality control and review of reports.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with SQL Scripts and SQL views as the underlying structure for Power BI reports.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience developing Power BI dashboards, KPI scorecards, and visual reports.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, data gateway, and data preparation projects
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications (including verbal and written) skills and cultural competencies, underscored by strong emotional intelligence.
  • Integrity and discretion, and a strong work ethic.
  • Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Awareness of general Blackbaud product stack (Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, Luminate Online).
