What is an analytics manager?

An analytics manager translates raw data into insights that a business can use. Usually leading a team of analysts, your job duties include developing data analysis strategies, tracking and reporting on performance, implementing tools and solutions, and overseeing all analytics operations. You must stay up-to-date on current industry trends. Strong communication and analytical skills are required. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in statistics, data management, or information technology and proven career experience in market research, statistical modelings, or project management.

How does an analytics manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business insights?

Analytics Managers frequently work alongside teams such as marketing, product development, finance, and operations to translate data into actionable business strategies. They facilitate meetings to understand stakeholder goals, guide data collection efforts, and present findings in a way that's accessible to non-technical audiences. This cross-functional collaboration ensures that insights are aligned with business objectives and that projects are implemented effectively. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an analytics manager, and why are they important?

These competencies ensure data-driven decision-making, effective team leadership, and impactful business outcomes.

Job description

Do you want to leverage strong technical skills, financial acumen, and critical thinking on the growth of Amazon's operations network?
Sub-same Day (SSD) is an essential function in NA Amazon and provides a fast, convenient, and 'delivery in hours' service to Amazon's customers. The SSD network is designed and optimized to fulfill speed-sensitive products to Amazon's customers. Our finance team closely partners to support this rapidly expanding business while building a portfolio of delivery stations, and technology to deliver customers faster than same day service.

You will make history as you help build one of the largest carriers on the planet.
Investment Analytics Finance seeks a Finance Manager to join the Last Mile Investment Analytics team, partnering directly with our business and finance partners to own SSD Investment Analytics where you will influence decision-making within the org. You will have extensive cross-functional partnership opportunities with business and finance leaders across multiple disciplines including Real Estate, Long Range Planning, Topology, Construction, Startup and Launch teams to solve high visibility, high impact, unstructured problems as we optimize our delivery network. Your ability to deliver meaningful financial analysis through ambiguous situations and operate with a high degree of critical thinking will allow you to operate as the primary Finance stakeholder in the decision-making of growing our network.
Success in this role requires you to partner with and influence business owners, maintain a high degree of integrity, respectively audit and challenge business model assumptions, and adapt to a rapidly-evolving environment

You will own the financial analysis behind the capital investment decisions SSD will make, and hold yourself and partners accountable for ensuring those data-driven decisions are best for Amazon. You bring best-in-class business partnership, critical thinking, and high judgement not only in the execution of your work but also while advocating strong controllership within your team and across stakeholders. You are comfortable asking thoughtful questions, communicating insights, and presenting your analysis to business leaders during reviews.

You're a team player who thinks 2 steps ahead, prioritizes building analysis the "right" way, and appreciates process as much as execution.
This role directly impacts decisions on billions of dollars of investments in capital infrastructure. A successful candidate effectively influences business partners, provides sound and thoughtful recommendations leveraging extensive financial knowledge and critical thinking, and manages competing priorities in a dynamic environment. The candidate should demonstrate exceptional analytical capabilities, ability to work with ambiguity, and strong verbal and written communication skills, as direct interaction with global operations leadership is frequent.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and build processes that improve the level of accuracy, automation, and scalability of financial analysis
- Own a subset of financial analyses from ideation through execution that balances speed of execution with accuracy to deliver the highest degree of value to Amazon
- Uses active listening skills intuitively to communicate data (both written and verbal) in a clear, concise, and unambiguous manner

Adjusts style for various audiences to articulate complex finance issues clearly. Your communication drives critical business decisions
- Makes thoughtful time management decisions independently. Prioritizes work, resolves issues, meets deadlines, and seeks feedback from your manager.

Discerns between urgent and non-urgent issues and acts accordingly to solve them
- Drives own self-development in the Finance Community: seeks opportunities to expand finance expertise. Participates in events, initiatives, and projects, then shares gained knowledge in and outside of your team
- Contributes to work life harmony by being a positive, collaborative, and effective influence across team members as an indicator of operations excellence
