Membership Portfolio Services, within our US Consumer Services Business, is responsible for developing and scaling several growing businesses that are strategically important to American Express. We are developing unique and differentiated ways to strengthen the Membership Model across Amex Offers, Advertising, Dining and Marketing Technology.

The Enterprise Comms & MarTech Experiences (ECMX) team is a global organization that sits within Membership Portfolio Services (MPS). It is American Express' marketing services center of excellence with the charter of powering high quality, efficient, user-centric digital marketing experiences that accelerate business growth through optimized enterprise MarTech & MarOps solutions.

You will be joining ECMX's MarTech organization, focused on providing frictionless, flexible, and flawless marketing and servicing experiences. 

Role Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, Digital Product Transformation & Planning, the Director, Strategic Planning & Digital Product Operations will own strategic planning, portfolio management, and operating discipline for ECMX.

This role serves as the central integrator between the business, product and technology-ensuring that priorities, investments, capacity, and execution are aligned to business outcomes. The Director will help shift the organization toward value-stream and outcome-based ways of working, providing senior leadership with the insights and governance needed to make informed trade-off decisions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in strategic planning, product operations, management consulting, or enterprise transformation
  • Strong business acumen, including experience with technology investment planning, prioritization, and trade-off analysis
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority and lead cross-functional initiatives
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information for executive audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale digital, technology, or platform organizations
  • Background in operating model transformation or value-stream-based software development 
  • Experience working in highly matrixed or regulated environments

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Portfolio Management

  • Lead long-term strategic planning and roadmap development, ensuring alignment with business priorities
  • Apply portfolio-level thinking to balance near-term delivery with long-term capability building
  • Drive business modeling and investment trade-off decisions, including prioritization across initiatives, funding scenarios, and capacity constraints

Product & Operating Model Enablement

  • Design and evolve operating portfolio planning processes aligned to value streams anchored towards business outcomes
  • Enable consistent planning, intake, prioritization, and execution rhythms across MarTech teams
  • Partner with Product and Technology leaders to improve flow, predictability, and transparency

Workforce & Capacity Planning

  • Own workforce and capacity forecasting, ensuring alignment between demand, skills, and available delivery capacity
  • Provide leadership with a forward-looking view of delivery risk and constraints

Analytics, Insights & Decision Support

  • Deliver actionable insights to senior leadership, translating data into implications for strategy, investment, and execution
  • Lead scenario planning and trade-off analysis, surfacing risks, dependencies, and opportunity costs
  • Shift performance measurement toward outcomes and business value, not just delivery milestones or budget tracking

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as a strategic partner to Lines of Business, Product, and Technology leaders, influencing priorities and shaping enterprise capabilities
  • Drive alignment across teams and domains around shared outcomes and value streams
  • Facilitate complex discussions with senior leaders to build consensus and enable timely decision-making
  • Lead or influence teams and forums to reinforce outcome-oriented thinking and operational discipline
