Job description

​Since 1965, Wolff Bros. Supply, Inc. has been an important part of the wholesale distribution industry. Through our support of commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential sectors, we are one of the largest distributors in Ohio for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting and tool products.

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of Software Engineers and Business Systems Analysts. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in managing Java and enterprise applications, combined with proven leadership experience in managing, coaching, and developing engineering talent. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with Java, SQL, APIs, along with proven ability to support mission‑critical distribution systems and troubleshoot complex interface issues. This role requires hands-on technical oversight, including code review, architectural guidance, and ownership of API-based applications supporting distribution, sales, and warehouse systems. This is a fully onsite position (5 days per week).
No relocation or Remote available at this time.
People amp; Project Management
  • Drive Agile practices and ceremonies such as daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and grooming.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Assess team workload and manage resource allocation to meet business objectives.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Partner with leadership to set priorities and align engineering efforts with organizational goals.
Technical Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of high-performing software engineers.
  • Provide hands-on guidance in software engineering best practices, coding standards, and modern development methodologies.
  • Review and approve technical change requests to ensure quality, avoid risk, and ensure success.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for assigned portfolio of technical applications.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Proven ability to review code, provide technical direction, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban). Java Advanced knowledge of Java (21+ preferred), Spring Framework, Hibernate, and microservices.
  • Hands-on experience or deep technical understanding of React, state management, and modern frontend workflows.
  • Java Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Java (17+ preferred), Spring Framework, Hibernate, and microservices.
  • React Familiarity: Hands-on experience or deep technical understanding of React, state management, and modern frontend workflows.
  • Extensive experience in Java application and API development, including coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and production support
  • Advanced knowledge of: Java, SQL, XML, JDBC, SFTP
  • Experience with database platforms such as DB2 and MySQL
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including working with large datasets and standardized reporting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an AS/400 environment preferred.
  • Power BI experience
  • Background in modernization initiatives such as API development or migrating legacy systems.
