Position Summary

Digital Workflow Solutions is responsible for the SPM Surgical Asset Tracking solution that powers safe, consistent, and compliant workflows across Sterile Processing, Operating Rooms, Endoscopy, and broader clinical operations. SPM Workflow Solution and Surgical Asset Tracking Software | STERIS


The Senior Manager, Test Engineering will lead the Software Test Engineering (formerly QA) organization responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of the SPM product portfolio. You will oversee all verification activities, test planning, automation strategy, and release readiness across a mature and widely deployed enterprise application. You will establish scalable, repeatable test processes, strengthens Agile testing practices, and drives continuous improvement to support compliant, high quality software delivery. The Sr. Manager also partners closely with Product, Development, DevOps, Security, and Support to ensure releases meet customer, workflow, and regulatory expectations.


*This is a fully remote position. Qualified candidates must currently reside in the Continental United States. Location preference is within the Eastern or Central time zones due to global team management.


**This role is part of the product development team, not corporate IT, and oversees the testing of a commercial software solution that is sold to and supported for Customers.

What You'll Do as a Senior Manager, Test Engineering
  • Manage Test Engineers, Test Leads, and Automation Engineers. Provide leadership, coaching, and career development while ensuring the team has resources and support to perform at a high level.
  • Define and implement the overall Test Engineering strategy, including test methodologies, test planning, quality gates, and repeatable, scalable test processes across the SPM product portfolio.
  • Build and expand automated test coverage (UI, API, regression suites) and integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve release predictability and testing efficiency.
  • Champion Agile testing practices, ensuring test readiness, story acceptance criteria, and testing alignment with sprint and PI planning.
  • Oversee functional, regression, workflow, performance, integration, and end to end testing activities for new features, enhancements, and sustaining engineering work.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Software Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Customer Support to ensure alignment on scope, timelines, environments, defects, and release readiness.
  • Lead root-cause investigations for escaped defects and establish corrective and preventive actions. Define and track quality metrics to improve defect prevention and test effectiveness.
  • Lead hiring and onboarding of Test and Automation Engineers. Build a high ownership team with strong testing skills and quality mindsets.
  • Identify testing related risks, resource gaps, environment issues, and schedule challenges early. Create and execute mitigation strategies to ensure safe, stable releases.
  • Continuously improve test processes, tooling, documentation, automation reliability, and testing efficiency across the organization.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • 12+ years of experience in Software/Test Engineering, Verification & Validation, or Quality Engineering within an R&D environment.
  • 10+ years of experience testing enterprise software systems, including workflow-heavy, integration-heavy, or multi-module applications.
  • Proven track record managing Test/QA teams, hiring and retaining talent, and leading cross-functional quality initiatives.
  • 8+ years of experience building, coaching, and developing Test Engineers and Automation Engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing automated test frameworks (UI, API, regression suites).
  • Experience in Agile methodologies, including Agile test practices, story refinement, acceptance criteria creation, and iterative delivery.
  • Experience with test management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, Zephyr, qTest).


Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Software Quality, or related field desired.
  • Experience testing software in regulated environments (healthcare, life sciences, or similar).
  • Training or certification in test automation, software quality engineering, or continuous testing.
  • Agile or Scrum certification preferred.
  • Experience with risk based testing, validation protocols, and compliant documentation models.
  • Currently residing in Eastern or Central Time Zones.

Base pay range for this opportunity is $150,000 - $178,000. This position is also bonus and LTI eligible.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
