What is an Amazon Product Tester job?

An Amazon Product Tester is someone who receives products from sellers or brands to test and review. These testers provide feedback on the item's quality, functionality, and overall experience, helping sellers improve their products and listings. While some testing opportunities are legitimate, Amazon does not have an official program for product testers, so be cautious of scams. Testers may receive free or discounted products but should follow Amazon's review policies to avoid violating guidelines.

How do I become a product tester for Amazon?

To become an Amazon product tester, you can sign up for Amazon's official programs like the Amazon Vine Voice or participate in product testing panels through third-party sites that partner with Amazon. These programs often require you to have an active Amazon account, provide honest reviews, and sometimes meet specific demographic or interest criteria.

Does Amazon have tester jobs?

Amazon offers product tester jobs where individuals evaluate products for quality, usability, and performance. These roles often require attention to detail, good communication skills, and sometimes specific product knowledge, and they may be part-time or flexible positions. Applicants typically need to apply through Amazon's official channels or third-party platforms that connect testers with companies.

Do Amazon product testers get paid?

Amazon product testers typically do not receive direct payment; instead, they receive free products in exchange for providing reviews and feedback. Some companies or platforms may offer compensation, but most product testing roles focus on product samples rather than monetary pay. It is important to verify the specific requirements of each testing opportunity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Amazon Product Tester position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Amazon Product Tester, you should have a keen eye for detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to provide clear written feedback, with a background in product testing or quality assurance being helpful. Familiarity with review platforms, product evaluation forms, and basic data entry tools is commonly required. Strong communication skills, reliability, and objectivity help testers excel in sharing useful insights and meeting deadlines. These abilities are critical for ensuring that product feedback is accurate, actionable, and valuable to manufacturers and retailers.

Is an Amazon product tester a real thing?

An Amazon product tester is a legitimate role where individuals review and provide feedback on products purchased through Amazon, often in exchange for free or discounted items. These testers typically need to follow specific guidelines and may be required to submit reviews or reports about the products' quality and performance.

What does a typical day look like for an Amazon Product Tester?

A typical day as an Amazon Product Tester involves receiving new products, carefully evaluating their performance and features, and documenting your experiences in detailed written reviews or feedback forms. You may be required to take photos or videos as part of the reporting process and adhere to specific testing criteria or guidelines set by Amazon or the product manufacturer. Testers often work independently but might communicate with quality assurance teams or other testers to clarify testing requirements or share best practices. You may test multiple products each week, making time management and organizational skills important for staying on top of assignments. This variety keeps the work dynamic, with opportunities to explore and influence a wide range of consumer goods.

Job description

With AI reshaping every layer of the software stack, the tools engineers use to build, test, and ship software are being reimagined - making them faster, more automated, and more reliable than ever. The Amazon Web Experiences Infrastructure (WEI) team is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our ranks.
Join our team to design and operate the scalable, reliable systems that compile and test software dependent on Chromium - the world's largest open-source project - across Amazon, powering Amazon WebView, the Silk browser, and a growing set of Chromium-based products. You'll rethink how an entire engineering organization builds and verifies Chromium-based software at scale, and take the lead on how rapidly evolving AI transforms developer productivity and software quality. You'll collaborate with talented engineers, product managers, and partner teams to solve complex distributed-systems and developer-experience challenges while directly impacting how engineers build the browsing experiences that reach millions of Amazon devices.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and operate the scalable, reliable systems that compile and test software dependent on Chromium across Amazon - owning API contracts, data models, and the scaling, latency, and availability budgets that thousands of builds depend on every day
- Drive AI-led innovation that raises developer productivity and software quality - shifting testing left to advance our vision of fully automated CI/CD from commit to release
- Debug and optimize reliability, latency, and data-consistency issues across distributed build and test services - including our device farm and device lab integrations - to ensure fast, trustworthy feedback for the engineers building Chromium-based products
- Collaborate with client teams (Silk, Amazon WebView, Vega, and other Chromium consumers across Amazon), product managers, and partner teams to understand their build and test requirements and deliver self-service infrastructure that meets their needs
- Document your work, maintain existing services, and raise the operational bar - participating in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical planning to continuously improve how Chromium is built and verified at Amazon
A day in the life
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Web Experiences Infrastructure team, you'll work across the build, test, and release stack, shaping the architecture of the systems that compile and verify Chromium-based software at Amazon scale. Your day might include designing pipeline and service APIs and data contracts, decomposing monolithic build architecture into distributed, independently-owned builds, prototyping how AI can shift testing left and eliminate manual steps from the release process, debugging reliability and data-consistency issues across our distributed services and device farm, collaborating with client teams to understand their workflows, and reviewing code from teammates. You'll have the autonomy to identify the highest-impact problems, propose solutions, and see your work deployed to real internal customers in a fast-paced environment that values both rapid iteration and thoughtful engineering.
About the team
We're a collaborative group of engineers who operate with startup mentality within a global organization. Our mission is to provide Amazon engineers with the best tools for building and verifying Chromium-based products on any device - maintaining highly available continuous delivery systems that verify changes accurately and efficiently across Amazon's device ecosystem. We set the bar for operational excellence, make developers productive by simplifying and automating development processes, and prioritize efficiency and security in everything we build. As AI evolves faster than ever, we see a rare opportunity to lead - innovating on the tools and automation that raise both developer productivity and software quality. We work closely with our client teams - including Silk, Amazon WebView, Vega, and partner teams across Amazon - to understand what engineers need, then build solutions that delight them. We recognize that while building and testing a browser has its unique challenges, many other teams follow similar patterns, so we always look for opportunities to collaborate and scale with others in mind. We're committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives strengthen our work, and we invest in each other's growth through mentorship and knowledge sharing. We believe that striking the right balance between professional achievement and personal fulfillment leads to our best work and happiest team members.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience in generative AI technologies

Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
