Core Accounting Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of legal business concepts, accounting principles, and financial reporting protocols.

System Transformation Experience: Thorough, hands-on experience driving financial and accounting system transformations or complex software implementations.

Project Independence: Proven track record working independently on large, high-stakes projects that built or enhanced core production systems.

Enterprise ERP Expertise: Expert operational knowledge of enterprise financial systems, specifically Banner and PeopleSoft.

Advanced Data Skills: Expert Excel skills, including an in-depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis and fiscal management.

Communication & Soft Skills: Expert interpersonal skills across all organizational levels, advanced service orientation, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively present complex finance-related information verbally and in writing.

Job Function Summary

Involves accounting functions such as analyzing, monitoring, preparing, and reconciling financial information to reflect the organization's condition and to provide financial and other statistical data to control operations. Also involves preparing financial reports to meet internal and external reporting requirements. Includes activities relating to developing, implementing, and monitoring accounting systems, policies, and procedures.

40% Financial Reporting & Advanced Financial Analysis

Advanced Analysis & Reporting: Performs the most complex and advanced analysis techniques to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and resource allocations. Interprets complex reports and records for administrators and managers.

Financial Statement Preparation: Provides comprehensive records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions. Balances books periodically and prepares profit and loss, income, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.

General Ledger Management: Leads the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of journal entries and general ledger accounts, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

Risk Management: Identifies financial or regulatory risks and effectively communicates findings and recommendations to senior leadership, including the AVC of Financial Affairs or Department Heads.

Strategic Planning: Under general direction, designs and conducts financial business case analyses to support campus units' strategic decisions on asset management, resource planning, budget control, and potential transactions.

20% Financial Systems Leadership

System Implementations: Leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of one or more comprehensive and complex general accounting systems.

10% Tax Coordination & Compliance

UBIT Oversight: Coordinates the collection of information for complex and unique Unrelated Business Income Taxes (UBIT).

Schedule Maintenance: Prepares complex summary schedules and directly addresses field inquiries and questions from various university departments regarding tax-related exposure.

10% Operational Lead and Project Oversight

Team Leadership & Mentoring: Functions with autonomy to achieve organizational objectives. Provides guidance to others in the department and serves in a "lead" capacity on major project assignments, mentoring professional staff members (e.g., GA 3 or GA 4 roles).

Cross-Department Collaboration: Functions effectively as a collaborative team member. Coordinates efforts between campus departments and other university offices to ensure organization-wide compliance with financial reporting requirements.
