Job description

Amazon's Global Engineering Services (GES) North America Design & Construction team is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to serve as Amazon's senior owner's representative in the delivery of complex built facilities and infrastructure supporting our logistics network. In this role, you will autonomously lead the full construction lifecycle - from design oversight and external partner selection through contract negotiation, construction execution, and operational handover - for complex projects including large-scale new builds, retrofits, and expansions across your assigned region.
You will own project budgets, lead design management, select and manage external partners, and drive project procurement - while serving as the senior integrator between construction and the internal Amazon teams responsible for equipping, furnishing, and operating our facilities. Projects include fulfillment centers, sortation centers, delivery stations, and auxiliary buildings, ranging from targeted renovations to large-scale new facility builds.
Beyond project delivery, you will contribute to developing Amazon's construction community, drive best practices across the organization, and mentor and develop other construction managers. You will present complex decisions and trade-offs to Directors and VPs, and you will be a key voice in shaping how GES NA Design & Construction delivers for Amazon's customers.
This role requires 60% regional travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Key job responsibilities
• Serve as Amazon's senior owner's representative and primary construction integrator for complex projects across your assigned region
• Oversee end-to-end project management services, design services, and external partner performance for complex projects
• Own project budgets and oversee spend approvals; lead project procurement functions
• Lead external partner selection, contract negotiations, and management of developers, general contractors, architects, and design consultants
• Oversee design and engineering of complex projects, including design evaluations, conformance reviews, and value engineering
• Develop project strategies and ensure appropriate resources are allocated to execute in accordance with those strategies
• Monitor project performance metrics, anticipate roadblocks and risks, manage escalations, and drive corrective actions
• Resolve complex issues; make and defend trade-off decisions between short-term and long-term needs to internal stakeholders
• Coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for permitting, regulatory compliance, and approvals
• Champion Amazon's safety programs and set the standard for safety culture across all project teams
• Achieve high-level alignment and consensus across diverse stakeholder groups (legal, regulatory, operations, engineering, finance, external industry groups)
• Write effective narratives and present complex decisions and trade-offs to Directors and VPs
• Drive continuous improvement; develop sustainable, repeatable processes and playbooks for the team and region
• Learn to force multiply - drive adoption of best practices and elevate the performance of teams and partners
• Contribute to developing Amazon's internal and external construction networks
A day in the life
Each day, you operate as Amazon's senior owner's representative - autonomously driving the safe, on-time, in scope, and on-budget delivery of complex construction projects across your region. Your day may include:
• Reviewing design documents and providing strategic direction to engineering and design partners on complex projects
• Leading negotiations with general contractors, developers, or regulatory authorities
• Presenting project status, risks, and trade-off decisions to senior leadership
• Monitoring project performance metrics and driving corrective actions with external partners
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders across operations, equipment, IT, and facilities on project integration and handover planning
• Mentoring Construction Managers and contributing to team development and best practices
• Developing or updating process playbooks based on lessons learned from current projects
• Conducting site visits to verify construction quality, safety compliance, and schedule adherence
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM), as well as scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, or similar)
- 7+ years of experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, or in a related construction discipline
- 7+ years of project management experience spanning design phase through construction completion and operational handover
- 7+ years of experience negotiating construction, procurement, and/or labor contracts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing complex, large-scale construction projects ($100M+) end-to-end with full budget and design ownership
- Experience across multiple disciplines within the construction industry (e.g., General Contracting, Owner's Representation, Commercial Development, Engineering & Design)
- Demonstrated success leading contract negotiations and managing external partner performance across concurrent projects
- Experience developing and implementing construction processes, playbooks, or best practice frameworks
- Experience mentoring and developing junior construction professionals
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex decisions and trade-offs to senior leadership (Director/VP level)
- Construction Managers Association of America (CMAA) or Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
