Job description

Our team is responsible for communications and marketing projects that advance the mission and strengthen the brand of the Indiana University (IU) College of Arts and Sciences. We focus on College-wide initiatives, including brand development and management, user-focused website development for our departments and programs, and recruitment marketing strategy and products.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Maximizes the capabilities of the Salesforce Client Relationship Management (CRM) and Marketing Cloud platform infrastructure to help achieve the College's overall advancement goals through creation and distribution of digital mailers.
  • Creates innovative and effective marketing and communication strategies that drive traffic to the Office of Advancement's events, programs, and online publications.
  • Inspires alumni engagement and shares the impact of philanthropy through robust, personalized communication.
  • Works as a member of the College's communications and marketing team and in partnership with the College's Advancement Office to create and deliver strategic content for digital communications.
  • Performs communications campaign-related tasks on deadline and with attention to detail.
  • Writes content and create visuals for digital campaigns.
  • Designs and tests emails.
  • Circulates emails for stakeholder review and approval.
  • Requests, imports, and manages data responsibly.
  • Creates landing pages and forms in support of digital campaigns.
  • Runs engagement reports.
  • Performs College and department website updates as needed to support digital campaigns.
  • Contributes to the College social media landscape by curating and developing alumni-focused content and helping to maintain alumni-focused platforms.
General Responsibilities
  • Independently develops and executes basic and increasingly more complex strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area within a department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explains information regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and acts as a collaborative resource in curating marketing plans to relevant initiatives, groups, events, and programs.
  • Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty, including information on various marketing channels (print, online, electronic, email, social media, and direct mail).
  • May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content and marketing materials in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Generalists.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or related field.

  • Expert project management skills with a high degree of self-motivation and personal organization, including the ability to manage and meet a busy schedule of digital creation, production, and execution.
  • Expert written communications skills with the ability to read and edit e-mail and other digital content and assess its relevance and quality in relation to the strategic goals of the project.
  • Knowledge of branding, marketing, and public communications principles, including digital and web communication strategies.
  • Experience working in a client relations or customer service role with the ability to relate both professionally and in a friendly manner to constituents and colleagues, and to provide high-quality customer service to a wide variety of constituents.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment and/or at IU.
  • Ability to carry out market research, including surveys and focus groups, to assess the effectiveness of web-based communications efforts.
  • Ability to articulate and engage with the vision and strategic priorities of the College's advancement communications mission with an appreciation for and ability to relate enthusiastically to the mission and values of a liberal arts-focused institution.
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork and team spirit, a willingness to ask questions, help problem-solve, and support team members when projects are nearing completion deadlines.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
