Job description

Title: Histotechnologist

Location: Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Type: Direct-Hire/Permanent

Shifts available:

Daylight: Monday-Friday, variable start between 3:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Afternoon: Monday-Friday, 1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Night: Monday-Friday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

Hourly rate: Competitive hourly rate and shift differential offer to off shifts

Overview:

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Histotechnologist to join its technologically driven histology lab, serving multiple local hospitals, who plays a vital role in supporting complex diagnostic and research needs across the system. If you are interested in learning more please apply !

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.

  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.

  • Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area.

  • Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.

  • Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.

  • Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining

Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.

  • Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.

  • Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry.

  • One year of clinical histology laboratory experience, training, or experience if not a graduate of an accredited training program is required.

  • ASCP Histotechnologist- HTL certification required within 12 months of hire.
