The purpose of this position is to provide aircraft maintenance services to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) for the Short-Range Recovery (SRR) Division. To ensure that aircraft remain in top condition, ALC currently completes program depot maintenance (PDM) (described as a total overhaul of an airframe) every four (4) years on each of the USCG’s aircraft. During this time, the aircraft are completely disassembled, cleaned, repaired, repainted and built back up before returning to the fleet. ALC may also complete overhauls and repairs for various other Government aircraft and components. In support of the USCG’s PDM program, the USCG requires Aircraft Maintenance Services (AMS) to perform the disassembly, maintenance, repair, inspections, evaluations of sheet metal and composite structures, electrical and electrical components, avionics and avionics components, dynamic components, landing gear and flight controls, along with the routing and verification of components, equipment and supplies on the SRR MH-65 aircraft.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the position will include but not limited to:

  • This requirement includes the complete preparation and servicing of the aircraft during ground runs, test flights, and certification flights.
  • This also includes towing, fueling, re-working, troubleshooting, and repairing any discrepancies generated through this phase of PDM.
  • When all aspects of the end of line phase have been completed and prior of receipt of another aircraft, or when higher PDM priorities dictate, this position will perform other aircraft mechanical duties for the SRR Product Line and/or throughout ALC
  • Repair and maintain various mechanical, fuel and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform flight line maintenance of assigned and transient operational aircraft, including functional testing, troubleshooting, and repairing all airframe mechanical systems, or post assembly checkout, adjustment, and repair of overhauled and modified aircraft to prepare for and correct deficiencies found on functional flights.
  • Will be required to follow work orders, as assigned.
  • Check a variety of complex technical guides to ensure they include up-to-date changes.
  • Report errors and poorly presented or confusing information to the COR.
  • Demonstrate or explain proper techniques, method of operation, and safety practices.
  • Observe performance and work with the employee, leader, or supervisor to resolve problems.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and maintains tools and equipment.
  • May transport, store, or use hazardous wastes and materials (HAZMAT) during operations.
  • Perform other Aircraft Maintenance duties as required.
  • Shall work independently and complete all repairs and modifications in a timely manner, with minimal rework or discrepancies noted.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of aircraft related mechanical experience or an Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) certificate.
  • Ability to demonstrate work methods and techniques.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of a wide variety of parts, components, and complex assemblies associated with aircraft systems.
  • Because of the complicated ways in which these major assemblies, systems, and surfaces are installed, fit, and work together, must have more ability to rig, function test, or troubleshoot the systems; determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system must be repaired or replaced; and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed.
  • Have knowledge of the make-up, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engine(s), landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces.
  • Have skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and the equipment of the trade including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands and external power sources.
  • Have skill in reading and understanding data and settings from cockpit instruments and gauges.
  • Have knowledge of activity supply procedures to be able to initiate requisitions for needed parts and supplies and has a thorough knowledge of the publication order system to obtain the most up-to-date technical manuals and to propose changes to publications when they find a discrepancy.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply trade or administrative guides such as technical manuals, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, and other related documents.
  • Ability to, reach, bend, walk, pull, sit, stand, crouch, stoop, kneel and stretch for prolonged periods of time. Frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers, if required.
  • May be required to work in cramped, awkward and strained positions or required to climb ladders, work platforms, scaffolding and aircraft structures.
  • Capability to work in regulated areas with toxic materials present including hexavalent chromium and cadmium. This will include use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, etc.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to follow appropriate safety procedures common to the trade.
  • Knowledge of specific hazardous materials and hazardous wastes procedures is necessary, including the proper fitting and usage of protective gear and completion of related training.
  • Skilled in the use of standard and specialized tools and the equipment of the trade including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands and external power sources.
  • Technical capability/experience with aircraft, airframes, components, and substructures. Should include maintenance of primary, secondary, and tertiary structures.
  • Technical capability to assist in PDM of USCG aviation assets.
  • Ability to conduct research using USCG data systems such as TMAPS, or similar type systems.
  • Familiarity with OEM’s manuals or similar manuals with the ability to research maintenance history, procedures and component limitations is desired.
  • Technical capability to deal with aircraft upgrades and aging aircraft sustainment issues. Experience with new component integration and developing repair or replacement strategies for airframes, components, and/or substructures.
  • Knows activity supply procedures to be able to initiate requisitions for needed parts and supplies and has a thorough knowledge of the publication order system to obtain the most up-to-date technical manuals and to propose changes to publications when they find a discrepancy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (unless higher education is required for a particular job category).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Shall be citizens of the U.S.
  • Possess computer skills to include basic knowledge sufficient to complete internet searches and prepare/edit documents utilizing word processing or spreadsheet applications.
  • Shall be capable of performing tasks that frequently require lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods of time.
  • Shall be capable of performing tasks in cramped, awkward, and strained positions and/or climbing up and down ladders, work platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures.
  • Shall be capable of carrying items up to 40 pounds and on heavier items shall seek assistance of other workers or weightlifting devices.
  • Shall be capable of using cumbersome Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) operations.

Full-time Night Shift

Pay Rate: $44.45/hr. + Night Shift Premium of $1.25/hr.
