Job description

Summary:

The Facilities Custodian maintains the cleanliness and general order of the building while also performing routine patrols around the building, monitoring access points, responding to incidents, and ensuring the overall security of the facility. 

NIGHTS REQUIRED - Hours are 6:30pm - 6:30am

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Sweeping and mopping floors, as well as vacuuming carpets daily throughout the offices, hallways and common areas.
  • Both women's and men's restrooms cleaned, disinfected, and restocked daily with soap, paper products, and cleaning materials.
  • Clean kitchenette areas as well as surfaces such as cabinets, desktops, telephones, file cabinets, copy machines, computer monitors, bookshelves and other furniture.
  • Water fountains will be cleaned and sanitized.
  • Cleaning all entry glass doors and side panels of entry areas as well as all other interior windows.
  • Emptying trash cans and recycling bins. Replace trash liners as needed. Trash containers will be cleaned if soiled. Transport waste to disposal areas.
  • General maintenance, repairs, replacement, and assembly to include but is not limited to office furniture (chairs, cubicles, etc.), lighting replacement, and other basic tasks.
  • Building safety and security monitor, logging checks, correcting safety hazards, responding to alarms, and reporting all findings.
  • Ensuring the building and perimeter is secure by routine patrols.
  • Respond to security alarms, suspicious activity, and emergencies by contacting relevant authorities and appropriate contacts in a timely manner. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Two or more years of janitorial and facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • Basic maintenance skills to complete minor repairs in the facility preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

List of needed knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the job.

  • Comfortabale climbing a 20' ladder to change lights and replace ceiling tiles.
  • Ability to use cleaning chemicals safely, read labels/instructions (SDS), and operate equipment like vacuums.
  • Competence in basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

  • May be exposed to and/or in contact with dirty and chemical products, as well as toxic gases.

Work Hours:

  • Available to works nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overtime may be necessary.

  • This position does not involve travel.

 

Physical Demands: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. 

  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.    
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Responsible for completing tasks independently with minimal supervision.
