WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a member of the Engineering team, the Electrical Design Engineer I or II is responsible for the design, development, documentation, and continuous improvement of aircraft electrical systems and cable assemblies in accordance with Epic Aircraft standards, engineering practices, and applicable regulatory requirements. This position may be filled at either the Engineer I or Engineer II level, depending on the candidate's education, experience, technical capabilities, and level of aerospace-specific experience.

Responsibilities

Electrical Design Engineer I

The Engineer I is an early-career engineer who has foundational knowledge of electrical design and engineering principles. This individual works under the guidance of experienced engineers while developing increasing technical knowledge and responsibility.

  • Foundational electrical design and engineering experience
  • Aerospace experience preferred but not required
  • Develops proficiency in aircraft electrical systems, wiring practices, and applicable standards
  • Works under the direction of experienced engineers with increasing independence
  • Supports design, documentation, testing, and production-related engineering activities

Electrical Design Engineer II

The Engineer II is an experienced electrical engineer with demonstrated experience designing aircraft electrical systems and cable assemblies. This individual is expected to work independently, provide technical guidance, and may serve as the engineering focal for smaller projects.

  • Demonstrated aerospace electrical design experience
  • Strong understanding of aircraft wiring practices, installation requirements, and certification considerations
  • Independently performs engineering design and analysis activities
  • Serves as a technical resource for engineering and cross-functional teams
  • May lead small engineering projects and mentor less-experienced team members

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Design & Development

  • Develop and maintain aircraft electrical designs, including system wiring diagrams, cable and harness assemblies, and electrical installation drawings
  • Create and modify 2D and 3D electrical design models and documentation
  • Apply sound engineering principles to electrical system and cable assembly design
  • Ensure electrical installations meet applicable FAA regulations, industry standards, and aircraft-specific requirements, including wire routing, separation, bonding, shielding, bend radii, and other installation criteria
  • Support design development from concept through production and product improvement

Analysis & Validation

  • Perform electrical load analysis, power consumption studies, and other engineering calculations
  • Support laboratory testing, system integration, troubleshooting, and validation activities
  • Analyze test results and recommend design changes when necessary
  • Assist with identifying and resolving electrical design or installation issues

Documentation & Configuration Control

  • Create, revise, and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and related technical documentation
  • Process Engineering Change Documents and maintain drawing and configuration revisions
  • Maintain accurate engineering data and documentation within applicable engineering and Product Data Management systems
  • Ensure engineering deliverables support program schedules and production requirements

Manufacturing & Production Support

  • Provide engineering support to Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Process Engineering teams
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing and installation issues related to electrical systems and cable assemblies
  • Support prototype builds, production implementation, and continuous improvement activities
  • Work with production personnel to develop practical, manufacturable electrical solutions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal departments and external suppliers to meet design, certification, quality, and program requirements
  • Participate in design reviews, including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR)
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Program Management, and other engineering disciplines
  • Develop strong working relationships across departments and communicate technical information effectively
  • Support customer issue resolution and communicate technical information and schedule commitments as needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Stay current with applicable aerospace electrical standards, regulations, and industry practices
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, designs, and documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Engineering department and company

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Required Electrical Design Engineer I

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles and circuit design
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with engineering design and documentation practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Required Electrical Design Engineer II

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience designing aircraft electrical systems, wiring, or cable/harness assemblies
  • Strong understanding of aircraft electrical installation practices and applicable aerospace standards
  • Experience interpreting and creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings
  • Experience with engineering change processes and configuration control
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to independently manage engineering assignments and meet project schedules
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace or aircraft electrical design experience
  • Experience with aircraft wiring and cable/harness design
  • Knowledge of FAA certification requirements and applicable aerospace standards
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD or electrical design software
  • Experience with electrical load analysis and power distribution
  • Familiarity with aircraft electrical installation requirements, including wire separation, bonding, shielding, grounding, and routing
  • Experience with SolidWorks or SolidWorks Electrical
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
  • Experience supporting aircraft production and manufacturing environments
  • Experience participating in PDRs, CDRs, or other formal engineering design reviews
  • Experience working with suppliers on technical and certification requirements
