What is an agricultural customer success?

An Agricultural Customer Success role focuses on ensuring that clients in the agriculture industry are satisfied with the products and services provided by a company. This role involves helping customers maximize the value from agricultural technologies or solutions, resolving issues, providing training, and building long-term relationships. Agricultural Customer Success professionals work closely with farmers, agronomists, and agribusinesses to understand their needs and help them achieve better outcomes. Their goal is to drive customer retention and growth by delivering exceptional support and guidance.

How does an agricultural customer success professional typically collaborate with farmers and internal teams to address client concerns?

Agricultural Customer Success professionals work closely with both farmers (clients) and internal teams such as sales, agronomy, and technical support. They act as a bridge, communicating client feedback and challenges to product teams, while also providing tailored solutions and education to farmers. This collaboration often involves regular check-ins, troubleshooting, and proactive outreach to ensure optimal use of agricultural products or services. Building trust and understanding the unique needs of each farm operation are key to successful outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an agricultural customer success professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Agricultural Customer Success professional, you need a strong background in agriculture, customer relationship management, and problem-solving, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in agri-business. Familiarity with CRM software, farm management systems, and precision agriculture tools is typically required. Excellent communication, empathy, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for building trust and supporting clients effectively. These skills enable professionals to address client needs, ensure satisfaction, and drive adoption of agricultural products or solutions.

Job description

Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges? You've come to the right place.
YOUR IMPACT
You will focus on accelerating sustainable and inclusive growth through deep sector expertise and leveraging advanced analytics to shape clients' strategies, boost productivity, and drive innovation across the global food system.
You will both support the Agriculture Practice more broadly and join a client service team and take ownership of a workstream to solve some of the toughest challenges our clients face.
You will dive into multiple aspects of a client engagement-whether you are analyzing market data, testing hypotheses, developing investment strategies, or presenting recommendations. Acting as a critical thought partner and sector expert, you will provide market intelligence and actionable insights that shape the strategic decisions of our private capital and agriculture clients.
Your work will help clients reach their goals and create lasting improvements in their industries by translating complex market dynamics into compelling investment narratives, driving client success, and strengthening the firm's thought leadership in the agriculture sector.
On both client engagements and with the Agriculture Practice, you will drive strategic insights by tracking and interpreting global agriculture and agribusiness market trends, ranging from crop and livestock dynamics to agricultural infrastructure. In this capacity, you will develop forward-looking views on pricing, margins, and industry inflection points to help clients successfully navigate risks and second-order effects. Additionally, you will deliver competitive intelligence by applying an equity-analyst mindset to monitor leading agribusiness players and building robust, repeatable frameworks to evaluate revenue growth, cost structures, and strategic positioning across various cycles and regions.
To accelerate client impact, you will directly support strategy and due diligence engagements by proactively shaping hypotheses and injecting fact-based sector context into case teams, allowing you to rapidly address critical questions on market sizing, competitive dynamics, and growth. Furthermore, you will shape thought leadership by distilling complex datasets into clear, data-driven narratives, charts, and insights tailored for senior audiences, which will directly fuel client discussions, internal leadership forums, and external publications.
Finally, you will empower the practice by serving as a trusted advisor to senior consultants, partners, and practice leadership. By communicating your insights with clarity and confidence, you will ultimately help strengthen the credibility, consistency, and market positioning of our Ag Insights team.
YOUR GROWTH
Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues-at all levels-will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients. Every day, you'll receive apprenticeship, coaching, and exposure that will accelerate your growth in ways you won't find anywhere else.
When you join us, you will have:
  • Continuous learning: Our learning and apprenticeship culture, backed by structured programs, is all about helping you grow while creating an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real magic happens when you take the input from others to heart and embrace the fast-paced learning experience, owning your journey.
  • A voice that matters: From day one, we value your ideas and contributions. You'll make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions, all while upholding our unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity. We not only encourage diverse perspectives, but they are critical in driving us toward the best possible outcomes.
  • Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 different nationalities, our firm's diversity fuels creativity and helps us come up with the best solutions for our clients. Plus, you'll have the opportunity to learn from exceptional colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • World-class benefits: On top of a competitive salary (based on your location, experience, and skills), we provide a comprehensive benefits package to enable holistic well-being for you and your family.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Undergraduate degree with excellent academic record required, ideally in agricultural economics, agribusiness, economics, finance, business, applied economics, data analytics, or a related agriculture-focused field
  • 4+ years' experience in agribusiness banking, equity research, commodities analysis, strategy consulting, or industry economics
  • Deep knowledge of global and regional agricultural value chains, including a strong conceptual understanding of key industry market drivers, price-volume dynamics, and/or agribusiness trends
  • Experience working with complex datasets, including time series data, company financial statements, and/or operational market benchmarks
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, including the ability to initiate tasks independently and see them through to completion
  • Proficient in rational decision making based on data, facts, and logical reasoning.
  • Ability to create work product-focused materials / outputs, which may include PowerPoint decks, Excel models, articles, or other written deliverables
  • Exceptional time management to meet your responsibilities in a complex and largely autonomous work environment
  • Ability to work or attend meetings outside of traditional business hours or take on projects with limited or no notice at times
  • Ability to travel to and work in varying environments that may be challenging and/or not accessible (e.g., factories, hospitals, mines)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and local office language(s), with the ability to adjust your style to suit different perspectives and seniority levels

Please review the additional requirements regarding essential job functions of McKinsey colleagues.
Our unwavering commitment to integrity drives everything we do, guiding us to always act in the best interests of our clients, our people, and the communities we serve.
